#313 Good Morning Tuesday, August 16, 2016

Hello Everyone,

Well I had a little accident on Sunday the 14th.  I decided to take Cierra out for a little ride and was crossing across Orange Blossom to go home down Airport and was hit from behind by a Dodge Dakota driven by Marshall Wilkinson.  He knocked me down and upon getting up off of Cierra there was blood running down my right leg and a hole in my jeans.  I could stand so I figured nothing was broken even though the tire of his truck was against my leg.  He backed off.  Since it was at an intersection, all kinds of people were available to help.  A woman called 911 and stayed throughout.  A guy named Carl Reese used my phone to call Jackie.  Somehow got hold of Jeff S who would have come to Lee Memorial that day, but instead, Jackie was already in Ft. Myers so she met me in the ER.  EMS came and put me in a neck halter and on a board and delivered me to the helicopter that flew me to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial.  I spoke with Carl last night and he reminded me that there was an Hispanic woman and 2 kids who asked if they could pray with me.  I’d sorta forgotten that, but what a world!  Anyway, I arrived in the Trauma Unit and fortunately I was the only one there, I think, and Dr. Guzman (Orthopedic Surgeon) was on duty.  He took me in to clean out the wound that was about a 10 inch gash from my knee to the middle of my calf.  He thinks there is a piece that may die.  I saw that flap when I first pulled up my pants to check out the damage.  When I got the pants past my knee, there was a huge, deep gash that I pushed together to keep it from bleeding.  Then people came and wrapped my leg until EMS came in.  I was amazed (still am) at how calm I was through the whole thing.  Marshall was so upset he hit me.  He admitted he was changing his radio station and wasn’t paying attention.  I know that God was with me, because we were just beginning to speed up to get through the intersection and never made it.

I got flown up to the Trauma Center in Ft. Myers.  I was trying to get pictures on my cell phone because when Roy did that he was unconscious and didn’t see anything.  It was a rough ride but quick.

When I got to the Trauma Center they cut off all my clothes.  It was weird.  So then I was able to go into surgery with Dr. Guzman.  He was young and very efficient.  He cleaned out the wound and then sewed me up.  This is how I was wrapped when I got home on Monday:  I only had one night in the hospital.  They were really good there – the staff was pretty young but very good.

Home from the Hospital

This is how I looked when I got back from the Hospital.  The cats have been very needy since I got home.  I think they get I have an issue.

Went to the doctor’s today.  Jeff is driving me back and forth.  I need to remember to take care of him.  So far it’s 6 trips back and forth.  Thursday we’re going back.  I don’t think Dr. Guzman liked that the drain was still draining so he left it in and told me to be careful about the cats since they could cause infection since it isn’t a closed dressing.  Anyway, this is what I saw today when I went to the doctor’s today:

I was hoping they would take the drain off, but they didn’t.  I’m still stuck with it.  So now I think I’ll keep wearing my “Tobasco” pants so the leg is covered so less cat hair can get around it.

I was able to wash my hair at the kitchen sink today – that was good.  But now I need to get to bed.  I think I’ll move this into the Living Room so I can have the TV later.   It’s a work in progress.  We’ll see how it goes.  I just know I should be off my leg as much as possible and then have it elevated also.  So I’m closing for now.  Thanks for visiting.

Next stop – Ted Zelman the attorney to see what type of a case I have.  I’ve known him through Community School.  His son went there.  I remember him being a bit of an odd ball, but really bright – the kid that is.  I think there may have been a girl too.  Anyway that will be tomorrow’s adventure.  John Sullivan is taking me.
