Good Morning Monday, October 20, 2014

Hello Everyone,

Well, October is moving right along!  It’s already the 20th and my brother Bill’s birthday is on Wednesday.  I’ll probably mention it again on Wednesday.  I sent him a Jacquie Lawson card this morning – dated to send on his birthday.  I love e-cards and especially Jacquie Lawson cards – they are really amazing.  I forget how much the membership is, but it is worth it.

Today is payroll processing day at work.  That means that the time cards need to be edited.  When I think of how payroll has changed for me over the years.  I remember “punching in” with a time clock that punched in the time you came in and the time you left.  I remember hand written time cards.  I remember adding up the hours by hand and calculating pay and deducting taxes all by hand when I was in the restaurant business.  Things have really changed over the year.  The time clock we use now, takes a scan of your hand after you enter in your code number.  My number is 4045.  I liked it better when I was on “salary” and didn’t need to punch in.  We’re going to go to a different system sometime in the near future.  Mainly this will happen when we go “on line” with Grey Oaks.  Our payroll system can not accommodate the additional staff that we will have over there.  We had a demonstration of the new system and it’s going to be “web based”.  I will be doing it for Orchid Terrace so there will be a “learning curve”.  It will be interesting I’m sure.  Our Pay Roll Specialist Gay Lydon, is retiring.  She has been doing payroll for Moorings Park for a long time – before I came on board.  She is older than I am by a few years, so I guess it’s time for her to relax.  She only gave 2 weeks notice and there is a “temporary” person handling her job this pay period.  They are getting more strict with the back up now. I have to scan everything and send it by email rather than in Interoffice mail.  It’s more steps for me, but I guess it is easier for them – although keeping track of all of the PTO (Paid Time Off) has got to be a monumental task.  With over 600 partners – that is a lot of paper and a BIG payday!  I have found that people don’t really care how complicated the task is to process payroll, they just want their check to be right and if it isn’t there is “hell to pay”.  No excuses!  I actually like doing payroll.  It’s difficult to do at my desk with all of the interruptions, but things work out pretty well.  I usually start it about 8:30 and I’m done by 10, but now I’m going to start as soon as I get in at 7:30 so I can be done by 9 and so that Lily can finish it up by 9:30.  She just needs to approve the time sheets.  We’ll see how it goes today.

I’m thinking about the gym again today.  I should have gone yesterday after church.  But I think I’ll go today and then go to Common Solutions at 5:30.  But I may go to the 24 Hour Club.  We’ll see how the day goes.  I really want to show some “improvement” over this 8 week period of training I signed up for.  At least lose a pound or 2.  I’ve watched a little of “the Biggest Loser” and it makes me feel a little better about myself – you know – I’m not as bad as they are……..sounds all too familiar!  But just sitting around and wishing it away isn’t going to make it go away.  Exercise is a big key to losing the weight.  I didn’t even walk yesterday and it was a BEAUTIFUL day – I just didn’t feel like doing that and I went to “SPIN” and had some fattening frozen yogurt with chocolate sprinkles.  It’s more expensive than it was when they opened.  It cost me $6 which is really a lot more than I want to pay for all those wasted calories.  So I won’t be going there anymore.  There were no customer’s yesterday either so I don’t think I’m the only one who feels that way.  I did go to the beach though.  Found a great bench in the shade on 8th Ave. South.  My newest favorite beach sitting spot.  Next time I’ll ride Red there.  I should have ridden Red there yesterday, but just decided I didn’t want to “gear” up with boots and all so I drove Rose.  I think my beach sticker is expired.  I need to get to the library for another and that would probably be true of Red too.  I’ll have to check that.

Well, time is up today.  I’m going to get going.  I hope you all have a beautiful day today!  Luann named her new puppy – Riley.  I said that would be a good name because I had a cat named Wylie and they would be “cousins”!

Mary, It is (almost) certain I left a long comment here this morning. Got to take a “Step 2” meeting to Hazelden at 7, so will write another after that…I hate that, b/c it was the first “good” comment in couple months–grin!!!!

After terrific meeting at Hazelden, and some coookies and a long day, my mind is a blank. The people at “H” are attentive, quiet, ask thoughtful questions, and chances are we’ll see them at 7 AM meeting after they’ve “done their time”. A most unusual treatment program.

If you did not receive my message, Rick is buying table of 8…+ 2 tickets for group to give away. He said “Thanks for the reminder”. I’m getting sleepy here at the wheel/keyboard, will be dreaming about payroll for 600 partners. That must be a huge annual burden on a company like yours.
    (Yawnnnn) Bye!

I hope you have a great day today. I did get your message about Rick. When I get the money I’ll count the table – I know he’s good for it and I’m not worried about that, but that is how it works in my accounting world for the Gratitude Dinner and Corrections Picnic for that matter.
