Hello Everyone,

OK so it’s now Tuesday and back to work today after having a LONG weekend for Labor Day.  I woke up thinking about this blog today and I’m not so sure whether that is a good thing or a bad thing.  I already look at it a couple of times a day from my phone at work when I have some “down time” which isn’t often.  But this morning I wanted to start with my extra curricular activities from yesterday so:

Frozen Yogurt on Fifth Avenue South in Naples

Well I wanted these pictures to be side by side and that didn’t work, so another skill I’ll have to learn one day.  Anyway, I went down to 5th Avenue South yesterday during my day off.  I used to live on 10th Avenue South in a wonderful 3 story condo which was just a few blocks from 5th Avenue.  My routine was to get up in the morning around 5:15 AM – that hasn’t changed – and take my walk down 5th Avenue at that time in the morning.  I could window shop as I walked and then I would get my 1/2 hour of walking done.  I was usually the only one walking – even Starbucks wasn’t open at that time.  So I got to know 5th Avenue pretty well.  But now I live “out east” and I don’t get to 5th Avenue very often.  I was happy to see that SPIN was still there.  It’s a great little yogurt place tucked away under the stairs across from the new portion of the Inn on 5th.  I noticed that “David Loving” Jewelers is now a different jeweler  – don’t remember the name of it, but I do remember that David Loving died a few years ago and the store remained open – I think he was in the program – at least that is what my mind is saying to me.  Then I noticed that there is now a “Boston Proper” store next to the “new” Inn.  I also noticed that there is now a “Turvis Tumbler” store next to Starbucks that used to be a Real Estate Office.  Now that is a little strange – it was just a “drive by” so I didn’t see all that it had to offer, but REALLY a whole store selling plastic cups?  Wonder how long that will last?  Although, I remember getting those plastic cups everywhere with personal logos on them and it kept the ice cold in those gin and tonics pretty well – back in the day………here in Florida.  I drove by Provident Jewelers and tried to see if Militza was working there.  She lived with me for about 6 months before I sold my place.  She was a wonderful roomate also.  I think I found her on Craig’s list – can’t really remember, but she was beautiful and a really a nice girl.  Had boyfriend problems.  I have a picture of her I found on FB when I was “researching” her.  I think it’s on this computer – let me see:

Joe & Vanessa

I couldn’t find Militza’s picture but I found this one of Vanessa and Joe.  LOVED her as a roomate.  She lived with me for about 6 years.  She worked as the Spa Manager (among other jobs) at the Registry – that was where I met her.  She was on a “work visa” from Ireland and was here to work with the Hotel.  She was LOVELY!  She met Joe at the Hotel – he was a computer consultant with the hotel and they “fell in love”.  Anyway, one day she asks me what I’m doing on such and such a night (around New Years I think) and she then invites me to her wedding on the beach.  Let me see if I can find that picture – it’s probably on my other computer.

I found Militza’s picture and not Vanessa and Joe’s wedding on this computer – but anyway, the wedding on the beach was amazing and they had a suite at The Edgewater for the weekend and partied all night.  I’m glad they were there as I wouldn’t have appreciated it since I wasn’t drinking then.  But they had a great time.  Vanessa lived with me for another 3 years (at least) while she was married to Joe.  He came over from Miami occasionally.  It was an interesting marriage – but she had a great job at The Waldorf (name change) and couldn’t find a suitable job over on the East coast although she tried for a long time.  I’m sure it was stressful for her.  Anyway, she finally landed a job over at the Boca Raton Resort and Spa and she moved away – so sorry to see her go and the extra money I got each month.  So that was when I was seriously looking to sell my place.  Put it on the market with a realtor but it never went anywhere.  So I found Militza and thought it would work out.  But before that, my neighbor Rick Logan mentioned to me in passing – he lived next door and walked to his workplace (he does property assessments) down the street – that if I was ever to sell my place he’d be interested in buying it.  He liked the garage.  He is a bicyclist and had numerous bikes (very expensive) and a nice BMW SUV so he coveted my garage – his place didn’t have one.  So long story short – he bought my place and I moved to my wonderful new place where I don’t have to have a roommate (beside my cats) and life goes on.  Yesterday I went for a ride on Red to my old place downtown to visit with my feral cat lady friend Andy.  So we called Rick to see if I could come over to see how he fixed up his place.  It took him about a year and a half to do it.  He switched out all of the doors and windows.  Put down tile and oak floors and changed up the kitchen entirely with an island and even moved the sink over to the other side of the kitchen overlooking the alley.  It is AMAZING what he has done.  All it takes is money.  But the only thing that he kept from my old place was the marble in the master bathroom.  One of the greatest things he did was replace the doors out on to the porch and they reach all the way up to the ceiling and they bring in a lot more light.  The place is much lighter as he took out my old DARK parquet floor and replaced it with light oak.  It is beautiful and so clean and open.  Oh yeah, I noticed the tile on the front porch was still the same – from Home Depot – and I have the same tile – left over from that job – on my little porch at my front door.  So we have that in common.

Wow – I really got carried away today and I’ve run out of time.  If you get through this whole thing – I’ll be impressed!  Got to go now.  Have a beautiful day!
