Good Morning Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Hello Everyone,

Happy Birthday Bill Bass.  You are 65 today – how does it feel?  So today is my brother Bill’s birthday!  The 3 birthdays I have always remembered were mine, Bill’s and Jon’s (Jan. 4, 1947).  I also remember my Mom’s (February 24) and my Dad’s (May 8th).  I don’t remember their birth years – never really knew them but it may have been 1915 & 1920 – something like that.  But I guess that means birthdays were important to our family.  I remember my mom “throwing” me a “sweet 16” party with my girlfriends.  I remember my brother Jon having a birthday party when he was about 16 also and he got a metal stretchy thing that had 2 handles that you pulled across your chest to strengthen your upper body.  He put his foot in it and it sprung up and hit him in the eye.  It was a mess.  Mom had to take him to the emergency room – probably something like that – although the hospital was in the next town over so maybe not.  Anyway, they put a big patch over his eye and I remember the party went on and we went to the movies.  We saw “The Fly” which was a horror movie.  I had nightmares about that movie for years!  Bill being the middle child, I can’t remember having a party for him, but there must have been – right Bill?

So today in my daily meditations I ran across the following message:

Today, I will trust my truth, my instincts, and my ability to ground myself in reality.  I will not allow myself to be swayed by bullying, manipulating, games, dishonesty, or people with peculiar agendas.

I wrote it in my “quote” book today.  I need to remember this when I get my mind working overtime with worries that should just be left alone.  That is one of the disadvantages of living alone with 3 cats.  They will listen but can’t bounce off ideas and concerns.  So I blog.  It isn’t a two way street, but at least I get the thoughts flowing out.

The weather calls for a 50% chance of showers – remember that Steve when you get on Flex today!  But of course “if you don’t ride in the rain, you’ll never learn to ride in the rain”.  But I still don’t want to ride in the rain.

Yesterday I collected $300 for the Gratitude Dinner.  Ricky bought a table plus 2 more volunteer tickets.  So that little detail is wrapped up.  We are now up to 5 volunteer tickets.  We need 7 more.  Hopefully, they will be covered too.

I watched the debate last night with Rick Scott and Charlie Crist.  It was pretty bad!  Can’t say I like either of them.  So I guess we’ll see how it turns out.  I miss Jeb Bush!  He supports Scott – of course a Republican.  I’m not sure I trust either of them.  Can we really trust any politician?  That’s a conversation for another day.

I do like the new fall show “Madam Secretary”.  It stars Tia Leone as the Secretary of State.  It’s a great show.  It’s on Sunday nights at 8.  It’s a good time for me to watch a show.  I see there is another similar show about to start “State of Affairs” – something like that.  Katherine Heigle (sp?) is the lead in that show.  We’ll see which one survives.  I’ve started watching the Black List on Netflix.  I don’t watch 9 or 10PM shows.  I’m in bed at 9 and usually asleep by 10.  But the Black List is really pretty cool.  Lot’s of twists and numerous plots in each show.  I’m looking forward to “House of Cards” to begin.  That is another great political show.  Of course, these shows are the reason we can’t trust politicians.  It carries over from Hollywood to Washington.  I still loved the show with Martin Sheen as president – I forget the name (West Wing – just remembered the name).  Loved all of the characters.  Allyson Janney is now in a show called “Mom” where she plays an Alcoholic with an Alcoholic daughter and they all live together in their alcoholic lives.  They even show “meetings” on the show.  It’s interesting.  I forget when it is on.  I usually find it when I’m channel surfing.  I don’t really care that much about TV any more.  I remember using the TV Guide to figure out what to watch when I was younger.  Now I just flip channels beginning after the news at 6:30.  I don’t have much attention for TV any more and since it’s easy to flip channels when the commercials come on, I loose my concentration.  And then there are the cats to distract me too, and then I start thinking about something that is bothering me and so it goes.  Adult Attention Deficit Disorder!  Let’s not forget FB on my phone!

This Sunday is the Corrections Picnic.  That will be fun.  I’m taking Monday off so I won’t be tired at work and I can do the “wrap” up of money etc so we can have a report for Wednesday’s District Meeting.  Monday night there is the Third Tradition Anniversary Hot Dog and Chili Party.  I may go, and then again I may not.  Emilio is involved with that, but I don’t go to that meeting so it might be weird going to it.  We’ll see.  Then there is Halloween and the Serenity by the Sea weekend.  Then after that, Intergroup on Wednesday the 5th and figuring out the “count” for the Gratitude Dinner on the 15th plus the Variety Show at Moorings Park on the 13th which is a little disorganized for us.  Plus throw in the Heart Walk on Nov. 1 and the Alzheimer’s Walk on the 15th.  I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving and time off.  After 8 years of doing the tickets for The Gratitude Dinner, I’m going to “officially” retire from that job.  Someone else needs to do it.  I’m done!

I’m having trouble with the Website right now.  I can’t get the form to work that you fill out for “new meetings”.  I’ve been trying to get a resolution to this issue through our new “guru” Gary but I’m not getting anywhere.  I’ve emailed him twice with no success.  I hate to have to call him, but it may come to that.  I even reached out to Bob in California, but he didn’t respond either.  I’m going to try him again I think.  I’m surprised he didn’t email me back, so maybe he didn’t get that email.  Can’t trust these internet connections all of the time.

So today we’re doing another Module for Best Friends.  So it will be a hectic day finishing up the power point that Lily hasn’t shared with me and wants me to “run” in the Auditorium.  I’m sure it will be fine.  Last time, it didn’t follow what we ended up doing, so that was interesting.  Of course, no one noticed or cared but me I think.  I think we should try to have the final module settled on before we finish today because people are supposed to have “projects” to present in the last module.  Not sure how many people are ready for that.  Something that has been bothering me a little at work is all of the “extra curricular” activities we’re involved with.  Even with a little “Bake Sale” to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Walk – each of them take time and energy and “worry”.

We’ll I’m out of time again.  Here is my picture of the day.  (still waiting for it to arrive in my email)  Now I’m really running late.

All three enjoying the front porch.

“The Fly”…is this the film in which at the end our protagonist (a small fly, with human body–½-inch long–is swatted by someone he knew in real life? I am vague, b/c my mind is vague–grin…

Mary, you wrote: “Today, I will trust my truth, my instincts, and my ability to ground myself in reality. I will not allow myself to be swayed by bullying, manipulating, games, dishonesty, or people with peculiar agendas.”

If you have minute…read my FB msg about attachments. It is reminiscent of your quote (above!)

Rode Flex all over starting at 6:30 AM. Found out how difficult it is to Pick Up my PICKUP riding my scooter. About this time it occurred to me that ya cannot pick up a vehicle while driving another vehicle–it just won’t WORK!!!! (I hope readers will know I’m joking. But the idea HAD crossed my mind.

SO it’s :”Taxi-Time”…I like that time with another human, when for 20 minutes the talk is about nothing of substance…usually! .

NOTE!!! NO RAIN SUNDAY Oct 26. (Monday NO rain, partly cloudy. Enjoy the kindnesses of WEDNESDAY, Mary!
    Bye.

No rain on Sunday! I saw that too! I’m excited. Notice that I added the picture to today’s blog this afternoon at Intergroup picking up tickets and money from the Office for Gratitude Tickets.

What I remember about the FLY was that there was some sort of mix up in a lab and the human head was transplanted on the fly’s body and the fly’s head on the human body. I can still see that little human head on the fly’s body on the book shelf yelling out “Help Me, Help Me” in a tiny little voice. Yikes!

Yea! New comments to my blog! Thanks for reading it. I think it’s probably about the same as watching family slides of a vacation that you didn’t go on and it gets boring pretty quickly. But I like typing and it helps me sort things out. I’ll be looking forward to your visit. Already planning to take “PTO” while you’re here and a trip to Weston will be part of that. This time, I know where the highway is. It’s just up the road from me past SUPER WALMART! Let’s go shopping!

Thanks for the memories, I remember “The Fly” and the eye patch! I don’t remember any party for me at 16 either, but then that’s what it’s like to be “the middle one”. You know Cathy has taken care of things since about 1990. Dad’s birthday was 1911 and mom’s was 1915.

Heading out today toward Arizona. We will be heading your way soon, looking forward to seeing your new digs 🙂

Thanks for the history of the BASS family. I’m really bad with that sort of thing. That’s why we have you and Dick. He REMEMBERS EVERYTHING! Aunt Pat looks great doesn’t she? The sole surviving Roache of her generation. We’re all getting OLD!
