Happy July First! This is what it’s all about: (for today that is).
I am excited, fearful, happy and joyous! This is going to be HUGE!!!!! I leave tonight on the Druggy Buggy express at 12:01 AM. It will be July 2nd and my hotel starts July 2nd at probably 3pm or so. It will be interesting. I think I’ll call and ask for an “early check in”. I would guess we will be there around Noon and I’d love to go right to my room. So I’ll do that a little later. It’s only 7AM right now. I need to ask if they will have hairdryers in the room since I’m running out of space and would love NOT to take my hairdryer. Now I’m looking forward to this so much. There is a FB page about it and people all over are posting to it. I even put this picture up and I’m getting comments about it:
I’m gonna miss my cats and I think they’ll miss me. Time to let Metaxa out onto the porch for her morning “fresh air”. She was out on the front porch today and brought in a little, bitty lizard. I can’t find it to “release” it. When she brings it on to the Oriental Rug it totally disappears so it either survived or not. We’ll never know.
So I hope I have enough things for the trip:
I learned the trick to tie my tennis shoes to the back pack. That way they don’t take up too much space in my back pack. I wouldn’t expect that they will allow us to carry back packs into any of the big meetings. We’ll see. I have my new “fanny pack” that I’ll be bringing. One of my purchases at “sober city” will be a badge holder that will allow for the badge along with zippered pockets for credit cards and money and maybe phone. We’ll see. I’m going to try to NOT spend a lot of money in Atlanta, but that will probably not work since I have to “eat”! I am bringing some cashews and chocolate almonds for snacking in the room. I should really bring some carrots too.
So yesterday, I got an email from JoAnn’s “soon to be ex-husband”. I had NO idea that she was getting divorced. JoAnn is my friend from church that sold my old place downtown (although I found the buyer – Rick) and found my new, LAST home in Shadowood. She was wonderful and I enjoyed working with her. Her husband John was also involved as I believe they were partners in the business together through John R. Wood Realtors. Anyway, I send out reminders about who is setting up and doing communion etc., each week at FCC. As I send this to many members of our “team” at church, it goes to him. So he “replied” to “All” and told us to take his email off of the list and to never use it again as they were getting divorced and it was just a reminder to him about why he was getting divorced. WELL!!!!!! Again, I say, I had NO idea that they were getting divorced. Anyway, Michael responded back to him and told him essentially to “cease and desist” from disparaging our church members in such a way. He was pretty blunt. I think it came across as somewhat less than “kind and loving” and Michael was just a bit angry about his attitude. So after Michael’s response, John shot off another email:
I ASKED YOU NOT USE THIS EMAIL> I KNOW YOU READ IT> WHAT DO YOU NOT GET? |
This was all in caps and in RED! Wow! So of course I have removed their email from my address book. I think it seems like he has some “anger” issues. I hope JoAnn is safe. I offered for her to stay with me if she needs a place, but on second thought, it may be better for her to go to a “safe house” as I’d hate for something to happen at my place with an “unstable” soon to be “ex husband”. I’ll pray for them. It is a difficult transition. I know from experience. After 26 years I can still remember what it was like to get divorced. It surely isn’t easy. But now I’ve forgotten most of the rancor. I know “this too shall pass”.
So when I travel I do this little funny thing. I make a list of all of the clothes I’m going to pack on a little pad of paper. It started with San Antonio with my “Beaches” Girlfriends back in 2006.
I now have 10 lists that span from 2006 to 2015. San Antonio twice, New Jersey in 2007 for Heidi’s daugher’s wedding, New Hampshire Beaches in ’08, Texas Beaches in ‘ 09, Dick & Doug’s Wedding in Connecticut in ’09, San Antonio in 2010, Cape Cod with the family in ’11, Charlotte with Beaches in May 2014, 45th DHS Reunion in 2014 and now Atlanta in 2015. It’s fun to reminisce about the trips and notice the “same clothes” I’ve been taking on these trips for 10 years – I’m not a “shopper”.
Well I have to go. Going to get my petticure at a new place at Berkshire Plaza at 9AM today. I think I’ll be their first customer. I want my toes Red, White & Blue for the 4th of July and San Antonio. Have a great day. Thanks for visiting!

Mary, THIS ONE is your BEST BLOG POST to date–IMO…AND I will not spoil it with a “Steve” comment.
Sorry about the church thingie…seems like NO church is immune to a slice of insanity midst the members. God uses those situations to strengthen the others’ faith…and sometimes uses our human frailties as life lessons for teachable Peeps.
Thanks for this piece of…ummmm, literature. (smiles)
