Hello everyone,
I have arrived in Chinle, AZ.
I’m with Sue, Marie and Genie. We caravanned from Antelope Point this morning. Got here about 2PM. Easy and pretty drive. I’m glad I am with others here. The town is on the RES and I don’t think I’d like to be here by myself. Here is my site #30: It is only $20 a night – CASH!

We are all circled up: I am completely level without using those big levels SO HAPPY!

We are in the trees so I’m using my HOTSPOT rather than STARLINK. So far it is working just great!

Sue is to my left and Marie is to my right. Genie is right in front of me. We have a great big area between us with potable water in the middle. No campfires, but there are picnic tables in the center. This place is really cool! We have a tour tomorrow morning. Then I’m leaving to go back on Wednesday. Let me see how far it is to get home. BRB. Look at the picture on Google maps. It’s before my birthday last year because the palm tree is still there, but it’s cool!

My route home.
These folks are in the campground and if you zoom in you can see they’ve been A LOT of places:

Gonna stop this for today. Will continue it tomorrow. Can’t decide whether I’ll go to the meeting or not tomorrow. Probably not, but if I wake up in time I will. We lost an hour by being here so I doubt I’ll do that. It’s really 8:15 when the computer says 7:15. So good night for now!
Beginning this again on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. These were my temperatures:

Now that is what I’m talking about. Perfect temperatures to wake up to. I slept until 7AM! The time has changed, so it is really 6AM but close enough. I’m even wearing blue jeans and slippers and a flannel shirt. I LOVE THIS TEMPERATURE and this very cool campground!
Went for a walk this morning and I ran into JOEL who had a SOLO stove. It is fired with pellets that look like rabbit food. You can use little pieces of wood too, but the pellets burn quiet and odorless. Here is a picture of it:

This is how he stores his pellets – it’s an ammo box from Harbor Freight.

I went to Canyon De Chelly today. We went on a tour in an army transport vehicle from WW2. It was incredible. 4 hours – which flew by, but I’m a little tired from it. I’ll go to bed early because, believe it our not, I’m looking forward to going home. I NEED A SHOWER and I WANT TO WASH MY HAIR! But I digress!

We took the tour with 5 other people and the ride was amazing. The ride was through the canyon on all sandy roads. It was really dirty. I don’t know how those vehicles keep working in all that sand. Anyway, the vehicle was topless which I thought would be a problem with all of the sun, but it was pretty shady most of the time and the air temperature was perfect – a little chilly. Looking up was amazing.

That is Sue talking to him while we took pictures of “The White House”!

Another view:

Sue pointed out something. If you were in a Jeep, you’d miss looking up and seeing the canyons. The rock formations are unforgettable. I’ve never seen anything like it EVER!

You’ll have to put the link in your search engine to see our ride in that fabulous vehicle!
We made it to Spider Rock:

Fantastic!

Spider Rock stolen from FB:
Trying to insert the picture of all of us with Harold!

Beginning this again today, Wednesday, September 24, 2025. It’s travel day. I’m going home after a week away with my girlfriends. It’s been a blast but I’m ready to go home to be with the family and take a long hot shower! The sun is just coming up. I should be ready to leave about 8AM. It will take me probably 6 hours to get home. I’m going to stop every 2 hours and walk around. So it might take more time. But that is fine. No rush!
Beside the wonderful tour we took with Harold, we drove the South Rim to the overlooks. It was fun – the last one was Spider Rock. But before that we stopped at other places.

This was our first stop on the South Rim. It was Tunnel Canyon. I’m not sure I got the right picture, but it sort of looks like a tunnel to me. There was no signage at all. We only had the map that was given to us from the welcome center. I’m glad I picked that up. The next stop was Tsegi Overlook.

There were a couple (3) Navajo venders there so I never got a picture – at least I don’t think I took a picture there, anyway, I bought this great hair tie for $10 and a sand painting (for Jack) for $45. They were very talented. There was even a woman making a pot in the back of her pick up. It was very delicate work. There were pots like the one I got from Ted and Cynthia many moons ago. The pottery was wonderful, but I’m glad I got the painting for Jack.
The third stop was Junction Overlook, where the Canyon del Muerto (Canyon of the Dead) and Canyon de Chelly meet:

The next stop was White House Overlook. After that we travelled to the end to see Spider Rock. But this was the picture at the White House Overlook:

All in all, it was a great trip. I’m so glad I got a chance to do this and see so many wonderful places in my “new” home State of Arizona! Love it here!
One final picture:

Broken down vehicle from the tour – not ours! Look at all that sandy ground! I take that back. That is our vehicle with Harold!!! That man was very tall. That is Sue and Marie & Genie. I guess I got out to take a couple of pictures!

More cliff dwellers. I guess that means I don’t need to go to Colorado to see those other ruins!
