Good Morning Friday, September 26, 2014

Hello Everyone,

So today is my first PAYDAY FRIDAY off.  I will be taking every other Friday off for a while until our new Memory Unit is completed.  There are 13 rooms not generating income for us right now as we convert the area into a different type of care.  So I’m “doing my part” to keep our costs down.  This is just a “drop in the bucket” but it makes me feel as though I’m doing something.  Although I have a little guilt  today because we are moving 2 residents into their new apartments from their old apartments and I won’t be there to help.  That leaves just 2 more residents to move.  One will move on Tuesday and the other one is in the hospital now and we’re not sure when he will be back for the move – plus his apartment is still being worked on.  But once he moves over, construction will begin on the unit.  It will be interesting to see that process.  This is being done a little ahead of schedule so hopefully this will continue to be the trend with this project.  Only time will tell.

So I’m thinking about my day today.  I am getting a mammogram today.  I hate those things.  But I guess they are necessary.  I can’t imagine how they do mammograms on flat chested women – now that would REALLY hurt!

I went on FB this morning and found the sweetest picture of Vanessa Carter (my old roommate).  I love Vanessa and miss her.  She is the sweet girl that lived with me in Old Naples for about 8 years.  She got married and still lived with me until she found an appropriate job over on the East Coast at the Boca Raton Resort and Spa.  While she lived with me, she worked at The Registry/Naples Grande/Waldorf Astoria.  She started as a housekeeper and then moved up to Spa Manager.  She was connected to the Registry by her “work permit” and had to work with them so she could stay in the country.  Her job was vary interesting.  She traveled sometimes and “opened” new properties for them.  Mostly in the Carribbean, but she was gone for months at a time and still paid me rent, so that was a win-win for me.  But she was a great roommate.  I hardly ever saw her, when she was home she was in her room and our schedules were very different.  Jackie used to call her “the ghost” because whenever she came over – which was on numerous occasions, Vanessa was never there!  When she lived with me, she never really warmed up to my cats – IMAGINE that!  Anyway, she is a “dog” person and threatened to get a dog while living with me.  I’m glad she never did, because I didn’t think having a dog was really a good idea for her with her schedule – sometimes she worked 12 hour shifts and who would walk that dog – plus would the dog ever be accepted by a pack of cats – too many red flags so she never got a dog……..until now.  Here she is with Matilda!  Wow!

Vanessa finally gets a dog!

Vanessa finally gets a dog!

Now THAT’S a DOG!

I need to go now, time to get ready for my Doctor’s appointment.  I’ll be back later – I promise!

I’m back now, after the mammogram.  I went to the NDIC on Davis Blvd.  It is really close to where I live.  That is so convenient.  There is also a “Quest Diagnostics” in that plaza.   Lots of doctors’ offices.  So I’m glad I’m living where I’m living.  It only took me about an hour to do the whole thing.  Drive there, get checked, drive home!  Love it.

I even got back in time to do a morning walk around my neighborhood.  So I’m set for the day for exercise.  Now I’ll relax for the rest of the day, but should clean up the house a little.  I should vacuum.  It takes no time to do that, but it’s just a matter of doing it.  You know what they say:  “Just D.O.I.T.”  That’s a Larry the Mechanic – ism.

I’ve let the cats (Domino and Metaxa) out on the porch. Domino is talking to me through the door.  So I’ll get up to see if he REALLY wants in, or just wants to make me get up.  He really wanted in so now he’s head butting me for attention.  Metaxa stayed out and I have no idea where Wylie is.  She’s probably under the guest bed sleeping.  So the kitty door to the porch is open for them, so they can come and go as they please, but they still make me get up to open the door for them.  Whatever!

I just finished my book Gambeaux so I guess it’s time to read another one – or find another “free” one.  There is a new thing on my Kindle that lets you give a book a star rating and then it sends out messages on FB to your friends who are on it.  It’s called “GoodReads”.  My friend Heidi who has been reading books forever and works in a library in New Jersey because of her love of books is connected to it.  She posts something practically every week so that is how much she reads.  I never was a good reader as a kid, in fact I remember in 4th Grade (So long ago) that my teacher told my mom I was a poor reader.  I still have trouble keeping my attention on a book, but I’m finding with a Kindle, I like to read more.  And now that I’m lazier in my “old age”, lying on the couch reading is a wonderful diversion.  I can’t wait until it gets cooler out and I can lie down on the chaise I have on the porch and read.  I could feel the humidity this morning (and my hair shows it) but I also felt that the temperature was lower and I was feeling “fall” in the air.  I think of fall and Halloween and pumpkins and the fall foliage up north.  People are posting pictures on FB about the change of colors.  I do miss that in Florida, but if you live here long enough you know that the change of seasons happens here too.

Well, that’s about it for now.  My first load of wash is done and now it’s time to pull it out of the dryer and put the next load in.  Then I’ll make my bed with clean sheets (I love a fresh bed) and vacuum (well maybe not do that) but will definitely start a new book.

Have a great day!

Cats “talking” to you–I love it–so much sweeter a sound than a FORTISSIMO
“B O W – W O W” or “R U F F – R U F F” (or both!) About 40 years ago a dog–the most gentle, kindest pooch you’d ever meet, good with children–well, he WAS a big German Shepherd, jumped up knocked me down and bit me in the neck-jaw area. They had to pull him off me. For many years after than I had great fear of dogs, no matter WHAT their owner(s) would say, like, “a loving disposition” etc.

Another “fear” of mine appeared NUMEROUS times in dreams. I was atop the highest building, and climbing (with a friend) that final slim, pointed TV-Radio Tower another 50 feet UP into the hell of height. While my campadre jumped around like a monkey, I was there frozen to a ladder which was breaking apart…imagine a dream like that night-after-night, for YEARS!

Here I am, writing MY blog on YOURS, I’m so tired of writing “Sorry”, so maybe just a (sigh) will do.

Leaving 6:30 AM on Flex for a breakfast meeting with a blogger/facebook friend, for first time. Expect to ride back before the rains begin–if at all they do. (Back to those prayers, Mary, please?–grin!)

Today, in loading my new computer (June 2014 new!) from old one, showed me I have read much more than imagined.
Books about “a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a little bit of everything else”.Everything I’ve touched today is “good enough”. Hope all with you is also “good enough” (means FABULOUS!)
    Bye

YEP! In June my six-year-old became ill, lost all his color, so I took him to my favorite trustworthy ” Computer Repair and More” 2900 Goodlette Rd @ 14th AV N.

Diagnosis was “last stage cancer” of the Hard Drive, let him (named Higher Power 2) die in comfort. So I brought him home where he sits in all his Black-and-White glory, missing a few brain cells. Well, Mary, I needed a computer for my business, (dealing in monkeys?), I call it “Monkey Business”–grin!

Computer shop carries a limited supply of computers and I bought a Hewlett Packard 15 ” monitor, 500 GB (Which translates to 2,250,000 200-page books. Figured by the time I read 1½ MILLION books, I will be in the eternal light, no glasses needed

I love this machine, use it mostly at home, unless taking trip on Flex. Computer cost $600+tax. Since I did not want Windows 8, owner took it off, and installed Windows 7 for me–have disks for BOTH 7 and 8 now.

Hey, Enough! Have a wonderful evening and Saturday, Mary. I’m leaving early and returning for my 6:45 PM meeting. You have a scintillating experience at your Marco meeting.–it is THE big night of the month there,
    birthday night, pot luck, etc

I’ll comment on your Saturday blog after I get back from Miami–if you post one–grin! More shall be revealed.
    BYE!
