I am home now from the 63rd Florida State Convention. It was really good. I really enjoyed myself and it was fine sharing my room with Jill for 2 nights. Plus I’ll get a little money back from her – $150. My room at the Doral was AMAZING. See #64 for those pictures. The hotel was really amazing and the property was beautiful. I only regret that if DJT gets money from this property, I’m unhappy about that, but as we say, Principals before Personalities, however that is hard in his case.
So all weekend we had 2 mass shootings again in America. One in El Paso by a white supremist – he is in jail. The other in Dayton, Ohio – he was shot and killed by police. Anyway, that is the 3rd mass shooting in less than a week. The first one has already left my brain and I don’t remember where it was – oh yes – it was at the Garlic Festival, but I can’t remember the location. See how we have become numb to this whole thing? It is very sad!
Kathy and I went to the workshop on how to bid on a State Convention. Jerry E wants to do it for 2021 and he wanted me to be on the committee. I “respectfully” declined. I really don’t want to get involved with his activities. I can never be sure of his “motives”. It is quite a process to bid for one of these events. My personal feeling is that we don’t have a facility that could accommodate 3000 people in our town at a price that would be reasonable. So this year’s convention was under registered by 1000 people. We had about 1500 and they were hoping for 2500. The key is to “under estimate” the number you think will come. We could tell that we were “short” people all weekend because the ballroom was set up for many more people than came to the speaker events. So at the end Aron (Chairman) was begging for more money. There is a prudent reserve, but he didn’t want to dip into it too deeply. They were about $35K short. By Sunday morning it was down to $26K. Not bad. Anyway, I don’t want to deal with that type of thing. I am way too concerned about those issues and I don’t want or need the stress. I will volunteer if it comes here, but that is about it. Kathy and I volunteered at reception. It was great, but of course I was wanting to rearrange everything more to my liking, typical alcoholic behavior.
The food at Doral was AMAZING! I paid for the banquets on Friday and Saturday nights and also the brunch on Sunday. Plus there were 2 Ice Cream Socials included too, but we didn’t go to those! The desserts were enough! The one on Friday night was really good too! It was a chocolate cake. Let me see if I can get a picture of that uploaded – I think I took a picture of it.

So I’m back now. I took Dan home this morning after the meeting because he rode his Harley and it was pouring and still is. Looks like it’s going to rain all day. So I am glad I didn’t say I would take Olivi@ to Gerzeny’s today. I’m doing it tomorrow to get the wheels “packed” what ever that is. I think it greases the wheels so they don’t get damaged. Bette & Suzan do it every 1000 miles. I didn’t realize I’d driven Olivi@ 1900 miles. So it is overdue.
Something I learned at the convention was that Pinellas County Intergroup has a picnic at Ft. DeSoto in the spring. I need to figure out when that is and go up there. They say it’s great. Meetings all 3 days with the final day being Sunday for the picnic. I think I’ll try to look into that for next year.
I am trying my low carb cereal for the first time. It is only 1 point and is pretty good. The round cereal is sweet. I’m going to look into the other flavor. I forget what they said it was. The round pieces stay very crunchie. I think it is a little expensive. I’ll see if there is something at Publix that would be a better cost. Now I am trying to get things as cheaply as possible. I want to be able to afford to travel around the country in an RV while I “rent” my place in Florida.

Too many books that I will not read again. I put them in the spaces in the bookshelf. All of the AA books in one side and the other books in the other space. Eventually, I will give these away some time – probably when I “rent” the place.
Love this. I’m getting a lot out of this course. As I type this, I am listening to the first webinar in the background.
