Good Morning Friday, October 10, 2014

Hello Everyone,

I got busy yesterday and didn’t get a chance to post here.  So I guess I should make up for lost time.  Today is the second “every other” Friday off for me.  It is payday at work and I’ve already seen the bump to my bank account.  That is one reason to keep working – love those paydays!  Lily is gone today also, so that means there are 2 down in our area.  But others will “step up” I guess.  I’ll never really know though.  I did remember to put my “out of office” message on my email, so people will know I’m out of the office – which is really a reception desk not an office!

I went to a new meeting the other day.  I actually did what I said I would do and that was to go to the gym and then after that make a 5:30 meeting.  This was on Wednesday.  I went to a Woman’s meeting at Common Solutions.  I’ve been wanting to try that meeting.  I went one other time.  It’s a good meeting.  I learned a couple of things.  First of all that the Common Solutions Group is going to celebrate their 10th Anniversary on Friday, Nov. 7th at 5:30.  They are going to have a lot of food and it’s “Free”.  They will pass the basket during the meeting.  I put their flyer on the aanaples.org calendar of events.  I sent it to Bill so he can put it in the Courier also.  I also heard from someone who shared what “SLIP” stood for – “Sobriety loses it’s purpose”!  I thought that was pretty good.  I like “HOPE” – “hearing other people’s experiences”.  I also spoke to a woman who wanted to go into the jails and I explained how she could find the application on the aanaples.org website.  We’ll see if she follows through.  If I remember, I’ll bring an application to the meeting next week.  So now I have a weekly woman’s meeting to attend.  I like that!  I thought it was interesting that Hazelden brings their “women” to this meeting – at least they did this week and someone mentioned that, so it must be each week.  I used to like the BB on Saturdays when DLC would come.  They haven’t come to the BB in a while.  I guess they changed their routine.  But when we “went around the room” saying our sobriety date, I noticed there were a lot of beginners with just months of sobriety.  Then when someone mentioned the Hazelden group – it made sense.

It’s 7:30 now and I’d be punching in at work.  But instead I’m letting the cats out onto the porch and I’m getting my second cup of coffee.  So freeing to have a day off!  I ran into my neighbors the other day.  They had gone for a long walk.  It is a son, Christian and his mother Claudia.  I need to write that and say it over in my mind a few times.  I keep forgetting their names, but I may have them now.  What I know about them is little, but she is an hair stylist and I don’t think he works.  He has a little beard and a number of tattoos, but seems pretty nice.  He has a “jalopy” in the garage that he works on during the day.  I mentioned that before, because I can’t see how he can work in that “HOT” garage each day, but whatever.  Perhaps he does work “on line” in the house too, don’t really know.  But I was trying to “run into them” – didn’t really want to go to their door and actually ring their doorbell – but running into them allowed me the chance to speak with them.  I wanted to see if they wanted to “clean” out their gutters but they said they just had someone do it for them – dang!  They are “renters” so their landlord pays for stuff like that.  But I called my friend Paul and he is coming over on Saturday weather permitting.  It’s supposed to be nice.  So maybe I’ll get them done then.  Back to the neighbors.  I think I mentioned that there is another woman in the house who is the mother of Claudia.  Her name is Angela.  She has been on dialysis and I’ve seen the community bus come to pick her up on the weekends.  Well for a while I hadn’t seen her so I was wondering what happened to her.  Claudia said she got an infection and had to go to a nursing home for 3 months.  She is home now, but not doing all that well.  So Christian stays with her during the day and helps her while Claudia goes to work.  So that is how I know Christian is one of the “good guys” despite his first impression appearance.  So now I know what’s going on with them.

I’m getting my carpets cleaned today.  I found these guys cleaning Claudia’s place 2 weeks ago and I was hoping they could just hop on over that day and do my carpets, but they were too busy.  I don’t know this company, but Claudia said they did a decent job.  Again – landlord’s choice – but I’m going to try them.  I have another guy at work who does the carpets for us at Orchid Terrace, but this guy is charging the same amount – $125 so we’ll compare the two and see which one I like better.  I’ll have to be off the carpets for a few hours since it’s the “extraction” process.  The cats have stained the carpet pretty badly.  Dang those “hairballs”!

Steve is coming over this morning after he has “coffee with the boys”.  We’ll sit around while the carpets get done.  Plus I don’t think he as seen the “little baby” computer in person so I’ll be able to show her off.  That is good because this carpet company isn’t one that I know very well, but the owner seems nice.  His “helper” is missing an ear so that is a little frightening.  Can’t imagine what story goes with that issue.  He looks like he is from the middle east somewhere so let your imagination take you to that war zone.  Anyway, I’m glad I’ll have someone else here when they are working.

Well, I’m gonna get going.  I’ve gone on long enough for today.  Have a great day today!  I know I will!

November 7 Friday, a day to BE THERE! Common Solutions Group knows how to “put on the dawg” when it comes to feeding the multitudes.

Mary, you’re making another life-changing beginning. Skipping the daily blog post (one day only–remember?–grin!), taking every other Friday for a “Mary” DO-day, relaxing the schedule if ever so slightly. Remembering as I passed the fifty-year mark, stress became my only real enemy of health. Unloading it is why I can be happy , calm, almost serene, thirty years later.

DANG IT! I wasn’t finished. Well…guess we humans are NEVER really finished. About avoiding stress…seems like the old first-grade rule still works three generations later–for me anyway. That is, S T O P !!! Count to ten, slowly. Works for me. Of course, meditation works BEST, “they” say. Still practicing. Takes longer time than learning the art of violin playing–YEARS!

Thanks for nice chat on your very comfortable back porch, almost like living in the woods, so quiet, birds singing, Metaxa (cat) hissing. Good vibrations happen when friend can talk about anything, everything, or nothing for an hour. LOVE you “baby” computer. I see one of those “carry-along” all-in-ones in my future. Never thought I’d miss my iPad (stolen) this much.
Nuff said. On this fine day, enjoy BEING AWARE…
      Bye.

Got the connection to the monitor at Radio Shack. That is a cool store – I could spend money in there! No one was in there but the sales person. That’s sad. Anyway, I’m going to take a nap now and hope when I wake up I can walk all over the carpet. It’s mostly dry now and mostly clean – a whole lot better than it was.

I agree – friendships are so important to be “comfortable”. Went to the Brown Bag and there were only 12 people there (like the steps) and I knew 9 of them. That is a comfortable place for me. Bill and I were debating about not going. I’m glad I went. So I got my “meeting” in today.

My boss said “don’t get used to it” when I suggested I take every other Friday off. But I’m going to be “used” to it and continue to do it no matter what. Maybe as I ‘wind” down my time at MP I’ll go to part time doing something else – not my current job. I especially think I want to drive the tram. We’ll see about that. I’ll celebrate 10 years at MP next March – my anniversary date is February, but we celebrate it the next month. I think I have another couple of years in me – maybe more. We’ll see.

The major thing is the lack of stress, but the weather can be iffy. Still think that could be in the grand plan. More shall be revealed.
