Good Morning Sunday, October 26, 2014

Hello everyone!

Welcome Cathy and Bill to my “blog”!  Thanks for your comments.  It’s almost like having you here with me.  That’s nice!

Well today is the Corrections Picnic.  I’m getting excited.  I really like the Corrections Committee.  We all seem to get along and there is a lot of cooperation with this committee.   Tim has worked hard to get it all together.  I’ll be happy when it is over so that there will be one less thing on my plate to handle.

I went to a different meeting yesterday with Jackie and Christina.  It was a woman’s meeting in Bonita.  I think it is the group that has promised 4 tables at the Gratitude Dinner.  I’ll be anxiously awaiting the money for that!  Anyway, yesterday I started printing up the Table Names.  I found some signs from last year for the “Principals” that will be used to “call the tables” up to go through the buffet.  Even though they are in “Purple” – last years’ color, I think I’ll use them and then make up others in the “Blue” for this year.  I don’t think anyone will notice or care about that.  We’ll see.

Anyway, back to the meeting.  Jackie and Christina and I met at Starbucks at Berkshire Lakes and rode our motorcycles up Livingston to Bonita Beach Road and then over to the church.  We were the first to arrive.  I’m glad Jackie was leading since I didn’t know where the church was.   It was a beautiful ride.  Took us about 1/2 hour on a beautiful day!  I enjoyed the meeting.  It was clear that the group knew one another and there was a lot of side conversation going on.  There were a couple of shares about marriage issues.  Both Jackie and Christina shared – I was silent – except for the announcement about the Picnic.  Someone announced about “Serenity by the Sea”.  One girl shared that her husband just got out of jail and was on probation.  She had a lot of resentment about all of that.  After the meeting I gave her 2 tickets to the picnic and invited them to come.  I hope they will.  We’ll see.  Christina will be there and knows her, so I’ll ask her to “keep and eye” out for her.  I told her if they came, they could pay at the door.  We’ll see about that too.  I’ll say one thing, it was a nice ride to the meeting.  I would have to get “used” to some of their “traditions” that I’m not used to – like handing out marbles for length of sobriety under a year – I believe.  It was pretty interesting.  They passed around cards to sign for 3 members.  I didn’t sign them – not knowing who the person was, but Jackie and Christina did.  I’m reserving my opinion about the meeting.  I’ll have to TRY it again.  Interesting – they don’t serve coffee.  Now that’s something I would never guess would happen, but it makes sense if you ask me.  I remember that when I tried to start a meeting at FCC (The Way Home – inactive), I never served coffee because many weeks I was the only one there!  But this meeting is HUGE.  There must have been 30 women there – maybe more.  After the meeting we went to “Dolly’s” for lunch (early lunch – they had breakfast I had a Tuna Melt).  So it was a great “bonding” opportunity with them and I had a great time.  Christina has a Honda Shadow also.  It’s gray/silver and a couple of years newer.  I was concerned that my breaks might not be working right, but Christina rode Red around the parking lot and said they felt fine to her.  Plus Jackie said she could see the break fluid was fine.  So I’ll let that one go!

After the meeting I rode down to Intergroup and picked up some ticket information for The Gratitude Dinner.  There are now 9 tables bought and paid for.  8 more tables as strong IOUs.  We are now taking Debit/Credit Cards at the office so the table for IVAN is paid for by credit card.  The volunteer ticket that Walk the Steps with Women bought for the office volunteer was also paid for by credit card.  So that is going to complicate my “accounting”.  But in a way, it’s probably better that some of the money is handled that way.  I dropped of another packet of 8 tickets, plus there was a packet returned “unsold” that I gave to the office also.  So they should have enough tickets for a while.

After that I rode to Office Max and bought a new laminating machine.  It’s a sleeker model, but I don’t like it as well as the other one.  But it is new and I think it’s a matter of getting “used” to it.  One thing that happens, is that the item is fed from the front and comes out the back of the machine.  It’s harder to start the item to feed into the machine, although when I tried it this morning I got a little better at it.  I think I just need to get used to the new “touch” of it.  I had a $10 coupon from Office Depot that they honored at Office Max which I thought was nice since they haven’t officially merged yet.  So that made me feel good about getting a “bargain” and not having to drive to Walmart or Best Buy for it.  So here it is: (picture of the day)

Now I’m going to go on line to register it so if something goes wrong with it I’ll be able to get a replacement.  So the $10 coupon covered the cost of that “extended” warranty.

I got a call from Gary yesterday asking about the forms not working on the Website.  He said his “guy” had been working on it and couldn’t figure out what to do.  He was trying to update his meeting “app”.  He said he had the “flu” and was at home working.  I was happy he called about it.  Sorry that it is a complication.  He suggested that I ask Bob to help figure out the issue.  I said it would be better for him to contact Bob since they talk the same language and I’d just be passing the message on.  I don’t think Gary wants to contact Bob.  But I’ve come up with a solution to the new meeting additions by using “inactive” meetings and reactivating them as the “new meeting”.  So far that has worked, but the form should work if we’re going to have it on the site.  Then he shared that he had heard that the “steering” committee was unhappy with the District regarding the meeting app that doesn’t update.  He told me that a while back and I mentioned it to Bill.  So maybe that is what he is referring to.  I told him that traditionally, the District and Intergroup hasn’t “gotten along” over the years.  I’m not sure why, but I’m sure it has to do with personalities and petty differences.  There is always the “issue” about the fact that Intergroup has a large “prudent” reserve.  The November Intergroup meeting should be interesting as I haven’t heard anyone talking about the fact that Terri resigned as chair.  I wonder who knows about that?  More shall be revealed.

Domino keeps walking over the keyboard now that I’ve moved my laptop to the desk.  So I think he’s telling me I’ve gone on long enough today.  So I think it’s time to close.  See you later and have a beautiful day today!

“Get a sponsor”, they said, and “Join a Homegroup.” These are prob THE most saving resources we have, other than our time-tested program for living–Twelve Steps. Over time we learn to be comfortable speaking to groups and serving (I call it having fun!). For me, an introverted, reclusive, “Alone and Lonely” soul, it was a HUGE leap, to be with, work with and enjoy the company of others.

Well, it happened somewhere during the second half of my life (I’m 81), and today’s “Corrections Picnic is my proof (to myself).
Among the “IF ONLYs” in my life, are if only I had learned this 40 years ago. Now, I realize that physical limitations come with age, and of course accept them. But Mary, “working” today with you and others out there is another validation to me of the utter JOY which comes as “A” result of being sober and living soberly.

I COULD attend meetings w/o coffee–since I bring my own, a holdover from days of “bringing my own bottle”. But THAT was so I didn’t have to “share” my vodka, etc. LOL!

Homegroup means now–to me–a place where the members get along, where there are often “newbies”, and a smattering of long-timers, and a M I N I M U M of that destroyer of relationships…EGO. PRIDE. SELFISHNESS. YOU know what I’m saying.

SOME day I’d like to eyeball your own laminating machine and see what you DO with it, how it is useful. My mind is a blank there–could “look it up” but I’d rather put my hands on one and work it. I am in NEED of a “new toy” suggestion for Anna to surprise me with at Christmas!

I’m considering a class in WordPress, but I do not believe that is your problem with meeting forms online…

Yes, always has been “smidgen” of rivalry between IG and District 7, then 20. But both have survived that. I remember when we had NO IG except a few active longtimers talking over dinner about the issues some nights. It is how the 24-Hour Club was hatched–born!

HEY! MORE than enuff already from me.
    Blessings, Mary!

Thanks for your words of wisdom. The picnic was a BLAST! I’m waiting to hear from Tim about expenses, but I know we made money. I’ll be blogging about all of that today. Skipped yesterday as you might have seen.
