Hello Everyone,
I started my day up a little earlier than usual, but the cats are getting a little better. It was 5AM today – that is better – back on the regular routine. It is another cool day- 63 – but it doesn’t seem so chilly. I do like this temperature!
So RR got my attention today. Here is his quote for today:
“We all live in the same cycle of unrequested birth and unrequested death. Someone else is clearly in control, yet most of our lives are spent accepting and surrendering to this truth, trusting that this “Someone” is good and trustworthy besides. It is the very shape and journey of faith.” Richard Rohr
Gotta love a drunk that has such great wisdom. Gives me faith in the journey!
SO last night we had our Corrections Meeting. It was a true “love fest”! Everyone was really excited that the picnic went so well this year. I have to say it is a pleasure working with this group of people. Everyone is a “part of” and the work is done so well. Everyone has a part to play and the job gets done. We even had a new woman there last night – can’t remember her name – I think it was Patsy. She wants to take meetings into the jail and we’re having another “orientation” shortly. Polly has decided to take on the position of Woman’s coordinator. I’m happy about that because I know she’ll keep coming to the meetings and I like her spirit. The best news is that we now have a secretary. Christine A. She is the woman that rode with Jackie and me to the Bonita Woman’s Meeting last Saturday. (She has a newer Honda Shadow so that is another thing that makes me like her). She wanted to “get involved” so I suggested that she start with Corrections. She already takes meetings into the jail, so she knows how it works. Anyway, I had forgotten that we had that discussion, so when she showed up I was really happy. All it took was – are you “willing” and she said YES so she is now the secretary coming into office in January if not before! Emilio is going to move into Co-chair. He is a great secretary, though and Christine has some big shoes to fill. I’m excited about the Corrections Committee. I love being with that group. We netted over $2000. So there was mention about the balance in our account – always money! Anyway, we decided to add 10 copies of The Grapevine to our regular order of 10 per month. So we’ll now get 20 copies. I am sending a letter to The Grapevine to start the ball rolling with this. I’ve asked to be billed for it so we get an invoice. I’ve also asked that the copies come to my home address since Intergroup will be moving shortly and we don’t know what the new address will be. Court is going to check with St. Paul’s about having our meeting there on the first Monday of the month before the 3 Legacies meeting. That would be great for me – not as long a drive. We’ll see how that works out. Allan B. was at our meeting last night and offered Guidelines for the Institutions Committee taking meetings into the jails. After looking through it, it seems reasonable and when approved, we’ll add it as part of the application process on the website. So when downloading the application, the additional 3 pages will be attached to it. Smart.
Tonight I’m having dinner with Dick and Doug after getting a “tour” of their new “digs”. They are planning to spend the winter down here this year after Christmas? I think. Not sure when they will be down here. Anyway, I’m looking forward to that – I know their place will be “spectacular”.
We are having a Bake Sale on Thursday at work to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. Moorings Park is joining the walk this year. That is exciting. I am going to go to Walmart this afternoon and buying cookies – if I don’t make it today, I can probably get them on Wednesday before the Intergroup meeting. Intergroup is going to be an interesting meeting. Not only will I be picking up all of the tickets & money for the Gratitude Dinner, they will be announcing that they have been “evicted” and need a new home in 30 days (27 days now). Not to mention the announcement that Terri resigned. Such is life in AA – never a dull moment.
Well time to get going. Have a beautiful day today! I’ll leave you with this……..
Was just on FB and this picture was there. This is a picture of Paola Columbo. She was the Italian exchange student that stayed with Beirne and me for a year many years ago. She has a wonderful husband – Mauro – and 3 beautiful children now. Her husband is a Politician in Italy. Apparently she is involved in something also – looks like she is giving a speech. This is really cool!

Early this morning I read RR…and wouldn’t you know Mary, I copied out that SAME excerpt. to send around, and to use. (MEMORIZE?? HA!) Yup! WE (who read him) have us a GOOD GURU.
ANOTHER reason I look forward to reading your blog each day–I get caught up on the local AA news, with first cuppa of the day. And you always write with thoroughness, yet, succinctly so.
I named that picture of Wylie, Metaxa, and Domino (saved it from last time you posted) DREI KATZEN. The German sounds good to me.
EVERYONE should have friends from yesteryear–like you and your Italian exchange student–who keep in timeless touch.
And DICK and DOUG–they are like “family” to you. Well, you ARE related. Enjoy life.(Remember: .www means What a Wonderful World!)
Bye.
Mary

That is funny that we chose the same RR quote – but then again – another connection!
