Hello Everyone,
So today is finally FREEDOM DAY 2. Got through the Gratitude Dinner last night with nary a skirmish. Just a couple of “RESERVED” table screw-ups. I’m going to suggest they don’t sell tables any more. People were all over the place and drunks sit where they want anyway. Although most were respectful of the balloons. Thank you GOD for telling me to buy 25 balloons when we only needed 18. Those other 7 tables were scarfed up by John W, Nanette, Steve Kirby and various others (some legit, some not). I always mess with Steve K. I swear I asked him if his 8 tickets were for a “reserved table” and he said NO but when he got there last night he said YES! Ugh! Then Nanette assumed she had a table because Snow was her sponsor, but Snow was supposed to sit at Peggy’s table. I never did figure out where Nanette sat, but she was happy in the end so I’m sure it’s all good. I was told that the first 3 rows were to be 5 tables each, but when I got there, there were 6 tables in those rows. That threw me off and my set up got screwy. But the calling of the tables with the “words” was GRAPE! The 4 lines at the buffet made for “smooth sailing” and we were finished with dinner with 1/2 hour to spare. I thought the chicken was delicious. I was surprised the veggies were “cold” but they were delicious also. I didn’t have the salad but Bill said it was the best part of the dinner. He had it in a little salad bowl and I didn’t see those when I went through the line so I skipped the salad. The 8 sheet cakes for dessert were fantastic and there were left overs. I wasn’t going to eat the cake but the chocolate cake was great. I could have had a piece of vanilla cake, but didn’t. I’m sure that was good too. So all in all, I think it was a success. Bill made the comment that we might want to limit the ticket sales to 300 only. I concur, but then again – I’m done with this so the next committee can make that decision. I’m saying we have money for 298 tickets sold. We took in $655 from the 50/50 – SO GRAPE! John and Polly did a great job again this year. Mary Pat won the Grapevine subscription!
In addition to the Gratitude Dinner last night, Intergroup participated in an “Health Fair” at some church somewhere. Bill had to “cover” for PI/CPC as Brian “flew the coop” – Bill’s words. But of course as we all say in AA – The Show Must Go On!
SO when I got home last night at 10PM I was getting ready for bed and I hear little Metaxa crying somewhere in the house. I found that I had left her on the front porch from 3PM to 10PM last night. Poor little thing – I had NO IDEA! I think she got pretty traumatized because she didn’t venture out there this morning after breakfast which is her “thing”. Now she is just sitting on her chair this morning looking sad. I feel so GUILTY! But last night when I let her in the house, she kept rubbing up against me, happy to be back in the house. I wonder what my neighbors may have thought about that and I wonder if she cried a lot while she was out there. I thought when I first got home that Wylie and Domino were acting a little funny and Domino was sitting by the front door when I got home, so maybe he was “reassuring” her during that traumatic experience. How could I do that to this sweet little thing:
Just another reason to get closer to my neighbors so they could have let her in the house while I was gone. Deb Lucas could have done it also, but of course I had no idea I had done that. So lesson learned……count heads before I leave. I did that to Wylie a couple of times in my old condo. She would scoot into the closet upstairs in my bedroom and end up getting trapped in there all day while I was a work. In this house, the closet doors are easy to open from the inside so I’m not worried about doing that here, but the front porch is another issue. I’m “LETTING IT GO” now!
Yesterday I also participated in the Walk For Alzheimer’s. I’m glad I had that to do to take up my time before having to go to the church. When I got to the church, the parking lot was COMPLETELY packed – I’d never seen that before. But it cleared out before our event. Anyway, here is the “proof” I was at the walk!
I’m right in the middle of the second row with my “Naples Beach Club” visor on. That thing must be 35 years old! Anyway the weather was fantastic for that event. They surpassed their goal, which was GRAPE. Notice all of the purple. I picked up a cool little wind sock thingy I’m going to modify for the Grapevine. Pretty cool!
Next on the agenda is a picture I got from Steve and said I would blog about it so here it is. The BEFORE and AFTER!
Well, now I think I’ll get rolling. Planning to go to church on RED this morning so I have to get going. Have a beautiful day today. I’ll be napping after church a lot, but will need to get to the store at some point and do my ironing so I can have clothes for work. Bye for now!

First on my list this Sunday morning was to report Mary B for “Abuse of Metaxa”. No, not the liqueur, the CAT! I still cannot figure if he was in “lock-up” or “lock-out” Saturday evening/night. OF COURSE I AM JOKING. (Our cats DO create funny stories!)
Yup, Naples Intergroup Gratitude Dinner 2014 went off without a hitch. You pretty well summed it up, by saying “Drunks sit wherever they want anyway.” Nothing is more true. Bill’s suggestion of 300-ticket limit sounds good. Probably be a sellout. When we drunks know there is a limit we’ll buy tickets just because we don’t want to be left out. We’re funny as cats!
FEW are aware of the huge amount of time and work required to host a dinner like last night–all at no cost for labor. Congratulations to all who participated. I’m betting every single one stayed sober. That’s how it’s done.
Metaxa is sweet one, I saved the photo, soon I’ll have separate file “Collection of Mary’s Cats”–grin!
Enough from me tonight–it is almost Monday. Gee, did I HAVE to write that? (sigh). Mary, I hope everyone’s Monday is as good as their Friday. Again, I sit here and marvel at the expression…

I’m still feeling guilty about Metaxa but she went out on the front porch this morning so I think she is “recovering”.
