Ms. Days Ease RV Life #98

Good morning world!

I am in San Antonio, Texas.  I think I’ll call my friend Suzanne while I’m here!  I got here yesterday after white knuckling it through construction in San Antonio.  Then finding this KOA in the middle of San Antonio was not very easy, but the good news is that getting back on I 10 is pretty easy from here.  It is only 41 degrees outside today.  I’m waiting for it to warm up a little so I can take a LONG, LUXURIOUS shower in the super clean showers!  My plans changed.  Since it is so windy with a wind advisory at my next stop, I’ve decided to do my 2 nights here rather than in Lake Charles, LA.  I don’t think I’ll get a refund, but that’s ok – still waiting to hear.  Since I’m taking the 2 days now, I can catch up on my trip and update you all!

DAY 1 on the road to Florida!  First stop in Las Cruces, NM.  First impression was that it was a bit dingy and industrial.  But I really am spoiled by having lived in Naples, FL for 43 years.  I’m a bit jaded!  Anyway, here is a picture or 4 of the place:

So this little library was interesting as well as their laundry in the same space:

I ended up at this place, Sunny Acres RV Park,  because my first choice, Hacienda RV Park was FULL on Sunday night.  So when Mike answered the phone and said he had space I was elated.  He sounded so nice!  But I think I got ripped off at $50 a night there!  But really, when Suzan and I drove from NM it was a minimum of $99 in an hotel, which were a little sketchy at times.  Anyway, this place was ok and certainly good for one night.  They even had “pickleball”!

They even decorated for St. Patty’s Day:

So basically they tried pretty hard to make this place welcoming.  There were some long term people there and some overnighters like me.  Although initially I felt a little uncomfortable, once I was locked into Daisy for the night I was fine.  I did end up putting the ULOCK on my bike, just in case.  The other lesson I learned was to be sure to “fill up” before I pull in for the night anywhere.  I panicked on my way out the next day and paid $.50 a gallon more than I would have just up the road!  OK lessons on the road!  I’ll try the Hacienda Place on my way back from Naples.

DAY 2:  Next stop was Ft. Stockton – this is where I learned the lesson about filling up before pulling in at night.  I needed to fill up and found out that if I got on I 10 East I wouldn’t find gas for another 100 miles or so.  I could have made it, but by backtracking (I know Cathy!) for about 5 minutes I saved myself 4 hours of anxiety!  So I did that.  This campground was called Fort Stockton RV Resort – it used to be a KOA, but isn’t any longer.  This is the place where B & C and I stayed on our first trip out to AZ.  The kitty was even there still – here is another video of the kitty “mugging” for the camera – SOOOOOO CUTE!

This kitty was so adorable!  Sticking his tongue out!  I love the way he sits on the fence post right outside the restaurant.  AND speaking of the restaurant……..I was planning to eat breakfast there in the morning, but decided to have dinner there instead!  Tara was the waitress and she had the whole place on her own.  She was a great waitress!  Here is my great meal!

It was the “healthiest” – chicken tenders grilled with Jerk Spice and fried Okra (not so healthy but delicious) and green beans!  The biscuit was delicious but I only ate 1/2 of it.  I thought of Bette with this meal – just like Cracker Barrel!  So this was the bill:

I haven’t seen a bill hand written like this in a LONG TIME!  Plus there was “FREE ICE CREAM!”  Nice touch!  Best $16 investment ever!  I’ll be back on the way back to AZ.

Just got back from a wonderful HOT SHOWER with water running without stopping!  AND just as I was leaving they closed the place for cleaning – perfect timing!  It feels so good to have a REAL SHOWER on their dime!  Very nice!

It was a really nice, clean shower.  I think I’ll go on and put a review on this KOA.  It is really good and they were so accommodating with my reservation.  I got to stay in the same spot, she just moved the reservation that was coming in today.  So I don’t need to move.  I love the view out my side window.

This view from my rig shows the 7 mile path by the Salado Creek.  It is a public walk/bike way.  Lot’s of people use it.  Very pretty, plus I don’t look into another rig!!!!! and I get to see the rigs leave – even in windy weather.  I’m glad I decided to stay!

I just called to get my mail forwarded and there isn’t anything yet.  So when I get back to Naples, I’ll just take my taxes to Tony G and hope he can do his magic and not have me owe anything!

So here is Daisy with the big boys!

She is so cute – this is at a rest stop along I 10 somewhere in Texas.

Here is Daisy at Ft. Stockton:

I love it when I can open the door and leave the screen door closed so Wylie and Metaxa can sit on their “porch” and look outside.   I’m sure they will be happy to get back to the house in Naples so they can have the HUGE LANAI.  I bet I won’t be able to get them off of that porch!  Kind of like this:

Cats in the sun

This picture even has Domino may he RIP in it!  I know I have others with just Metaxa and Wylie – let me try to find it.

They both had their own space! Always the way it is with them!

I’m about done for today.  I don’t know when I’ll be blogging again.  Probably not until I get to Tallahassee when I stay two nights!  Thanks for visiting.  To be continued……….
