Hello Everyone,
So today is “BLACK FRIDAY”. So I’m not going! I may do some “shopping” on line, but you won’t catch me in “the stores” battling for the biggest, cheapest “gotta have it” THING. People have been camping out in front of stores. I don’t get it but then again, I have a job and need to work to buy just what I need and a lot of what I want. I suppose some of those people don’t have jobs and if that is the case, they should be looking for a job rather than spending money they don’t have. But that’s being judgmental I suppose – you think? Anyway, that’s what I think of Black Friday! Plus I’m not a “shopper”.
So speaking of “JOBS” – this is what I did yesterday. I watched:
I highly recommend it. I started watching it before the Naples Group last night and kept thinking about it so I finished watching it after that. I stayed up to 11 last night – WOW! It’s been a long time since I’ve done that, but I have always admired Steve Jobs even though he was a bit of an ass. That is portrayed in the movie fairly well. Ashton Kutcher stars as Jobs and he really looked like him. I read the book about him a few years ago after he died.
I bought the “Hardcover” book and passed it on to my boss who has a grandson who loves “Apple” and wants to work for them. Although I don’t have an Apple computer I do have an iPhone and I’m amazed by it. I often think about getting an “Apple” computer but never quite get there. I’m not sure I want to learn another Operating System, although I’ve heard that it’s just like any other computer and you can get Microsoft Office put on it or it even comes with it already installed. I don’t know, I’m happy with my computers and don’t see a need to get one. My brother swears by it, but each year he and his wife put together a calendar that they give us for Christmas and they do it on the Apple. Michael my Pastor wouldn’t use anything else. He loves Apple Computers. Anyway, that’s something for a future “Black Friday”. There is one scene in the movie where Steve calls Bill Gates on the phone and swears at him for stealing his idea for the personal computer. Obviously, his “teams idea” was “leaked” to Microsoft. Those days must have been pretty treacherous in that industry. Can you imagine starting your own company and working it from a garage in to a multibillion dollar corporation and then have the Board of Directors Kick You Out? Talk about something to “drink” over. When I was going on line this morning looking for these images to upload, I noticed many other books about Jobs. One thing I was always amazed by, was his ability to introduce new products. He used to do that in front of his employees with a lot of Hype. That was “Showmanship”! His attention to the smallest detail made my OCD look like a little a blip. He really was pretty incredible. He was 5 years younger than me so we grew up during the same time and I could relate to his rebellious spirit. I did “march on Washington” after all when I was in college and a building burned down on my campus due to protesting the war, but that was a different world from his. His war was just surviving Microsoft!
So today, is a free day for me. I am planning to go to the VW place to get a light bulb for my back up light. I’m thinking it may be a simple switch out. I’m going to go check on that before I go. The bulb costs about $4.00 and I don’t want a $50 charge just to change a light bulb, but it may come to that. We’ll see – I’ll blog about that tomorrow!
I think I’ll go for a walk along the Greenway again today. The nice thing about that is, that it is not a boring walk. If I walk around the circle of my neighborhood, I get a little bored. I could even go to the “Jim” today – now that would be something! I remember when I had a membership to the Wellness Center at NCH downtown, I got mad because on holidays they closed. But our CHL is always open – I think. But it is a bit of a drive to go there just for that. So that is why I HAVE to start using the gym at the end of the day. It will keep me in better shape and then I can get to a 5:30 meeting on my way home rather than saying I’ll get to a meeting after I drive home – although I could – I just don’t. So my pre New Year’s Resolution is to do that. We’ll see if I do that.
So today is:
I think I’ll research taking a real course in Webdesign. There are so many aspects to the process I don’t know and I’d like to be able to do some things without relying on “others”, although I enjoyed getting things done with Bob – he was and is a good teacher. I need to be sure that the course is taught by someone I can understand as opposed to the guy at Adult Ed that spoke with an accent and at the speed of light. That doesn’t get me anywhere. So I may need to take a course at Vo-Tech or ITT Tech and just spend the money. We’ll see, more shall be revealed. There is scholarship money at work I could apply for – but I’m not sure I could use it for making my “exit plan”. Don’t think that would be looked upon very favorably. I think I’ll talk to Aaron or Jessica at work to see how they got their training.
OK this has gotten a little long today. I figure when the word count gets over 1000, it’s time to stop! By the way, did you know this gives me a word count? I’m at 1039, 1041 now! Have a great day today! (I just can’t stop!) 1050!

It would be helpful Mary, if WYLIE produced a “word count” for us who comment…I might even be reduced to a paragraph instead of a dissertation…oh heavens!
JOBS! You wrote about the “life-and-times” of a computer industry’s giant, Steve Jobs. I was thinking how certain it IS that you are destined to learn more about what goes on “underneath the hood” of those most beautiful web pages we all enjoy. Maybe one day you’ll teach older people how to enrich their lives in the cyberculture age (It IS here to stay–grin!)
It was the coldest yet at 6:30 AM on Flex. Noon has GOT to be less cold (warmer). Have a good Friday O F F !!!

I think I would like to teach others about websites, but then I better get to know what I’m doing. So maybe that is something to strive for. I think you might be right about “standing for secretary”. Still waiting for God to show me what to do. Not convinced yet.
