Good Morning COVID-19 Warriors! It’s been 3 months of social distancing. Things are beginning to “open up” but I’m still using my mask and keeping my distance from people. I’ve been watching Dragon launch to the ISS and now this morning they docked successfully! I’m watching the NASA channel on YouTube on my TV. I’m so happy that we are in the “space race” again. It brings me back to 1969 when we had the first Moon Walk. I remember it was in the summer before I went to college and I was on vacation in Long Island with my parents. It was quite amazing. I think this is just what we need to bring some joy into our lives at this time. GO DRAGON – Doug & Bob! This is a picture of them docked at the ISS. So exciting!
So now there is a “SPACE FORCE” like the Army or the Air Force. When I first heard President Trump talk about it, I thought “how ridiculous” to spend money on that when we should be spending the money on infrastructure in the United States which part of me says we should do that still. But it’s not such a bad idea to have the “Space Force”. It will give kids something to aspire to. After watching all of the bright minds and scientists during this exploration, it is something that should be pursued. And about SPACE FORCE, there is a comedy series on Netflix with Steve Carell, Lisa Kudrow & John Malkovich. It’s pretty funny! I was noticing that whenever they meet as a “group” they are keeping socially distanced which I think is interesting!
Today, I am practicing pulling OTIS2 behind Daisy. It is the first time I’ve done it by myself without my brother hovering over me. I couldn’t get the blinkers to work on the Jeep so I called Bill and he walked me through it! THANK YOU BILL! Anyway, I didn’t have the brake controller attached correctly. It was putting pressure on the brake pedal and was interfering with the light system. Did you know you can put the brake pedal on in the Jeep and brake lights work even if the key isn’t on? How would you know that? Can’t see the back of the Jeep when you are in it!! Good thing Bill knows that!
I drove Daisy and Otis2 to the trash and mailboxes. I used a pull through right next to where I stayed in Daisy when I first got here.
Waiting for my furniture in April. I did enjoy being at that site. It was really close to the mailboxes and The Barn. I took advantage of the meals that they prepared there. Now they are only providing them on Wednesdays. I think there is a “Pizza Truck” coming on Monday or Tuesday. I think I may try that. I ride my bike down there to pick up my food.
Here is Daisy and Otis2 in front of my house. I’m keeping them there for the day and I plan to take them on a ride to Kartchner to practice on a highway and then to Safeway to practice driving down the “back way” to town. I should practice parking at Walmart, but that might be for another day. Our Walmart here in Benson doesn’t have a big parking lot like others do.
I think my route will be driving through town to Hwy 10 and then get off at my Exit #302 and following Hwy 90 to Kartchner. I’ll let you know how it feels. It’s a little nerve wracking.
I’m practicing because on June 8th I’m going to Cottonwood for 5 days. Here is the map:
It’s just the perfect distance for a drive from here, so I think I’ll be going there pretty often. I watched a couple of YouTube videos about the place. It’s one of the Thousand Trails that I get to stay for free. With Otis2 being with me I can venture out to Sedona and Jerome. Metaxa will be with me, so we’ll see how it works with the weather and temperature. I’m hoping it will be cooler there because yesterday it was:
I’ve discovered that I can only be in this sun for a few minutes without getting “wiped out”. I think I still have some acclimating to this “DRY” heat. Bill and Cathy said it was 48 this morning at Yellowstone. It’s looking more and more like I want to be there next summer with them. I’m glad I didn’t plan to be there this summer because I wanted to learn what it is like here in the summer. But next year may be a different story.
So I can’t remember if I told you about my friend Susan Attwood that I met “on line” at the Freedom RV Virtual Rally a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, she reached out to me to pick my brain about getting a Motorhome. We’ve been communicating on the phone since. Anyway, I went to the Born Free Website and discovered this:
It is a 26′ (2 feet longer than Daisy) 2004 Born Free (1 year older). She contacted them and is in the process of buying this rig. This seems like a really good deal and there are many upgrades that make it very road worthy. I think she told me that she is driving up there (Minneapolis, MN) from where she is outside of Denver next Thursday. She has had experience driving rigs before, but it’s been a while and she is nervous doing it – don’t blame her – remember me? This is my first time driving her:
Very scary. Now that I’ve driven back and forth to Arizona from Florida (once following and twice on my own), I feel a bit more comfortable, but it’s still a little scary. It’s a lot of responsibility, not only for me and Metaxa in the rig, but others on the road.
So I think I’ll sign off for now. I’ll be back later. OK I’m back. I drove Daisy & Otis to Kartchner first so I could work on my GPS. I needed to re-sync it. It was “flashing codes” but once I disconnected my phone and then re-connected it the flashing stopped. Then I was having trouble using the phone component. I wanted it to be “hands free” which is supposed to work and had worked before. So now I got it to work and tested it with Bette. What I need to do now is sync it each time I start going on the road. I will add that to my “check off” list and then test it with Bette & Suzan.
I’m ending this for today. Thanks for visiting. I’m going to go disconnect OTIS and tomorrow I will do the same thing. Have a great day and remember: Be Calm, Be True, Be Quiet!
