Ms. Days Ease RV Life #170 8/8/20

Good Afternoon COVID-19 Warriors!  Not sure what day this is – wait it’s #129.  I am currently at Old West RV Park in Monticello, UT.  My MiFi is great!  It doesn’t work in Cottonwood – due to it being in the Verde Valley I suppose, but I need to remember that, but “free is free”!  I paid cash here so there is a $4 discount – only $36!  SO worth it!  This is a sweet little place.  Only about 10 spaces but 5 of them are pull throughs.  There are even little tiny cabins – doubt they get used much – pretty sad looking, but that doesn’t matter to me – I’m in Daisy with the AC on, Sirius-XM Pops (classical) playing on my bluetooth speaker and this is happening:

Metaxa in my lap!

I always worry that Metaxa will be upset with me for this ride. She stayed in my clothes closet today for the whole ride, I had to prop the door open because it kept banging and was bugging me, so now I have to tie down the bathroom door and the closet door. Maybe she’ll stay upstairs tomorrow. I need to figure out my route and how long my trip is tomorrow. More on that later. It is 256 miles & will take about 6 hours.

So today’s ride was 7 hours! I’m bushed – 2 fill ups! That is a little long for me to be on the road. As an example, at the gas station I stopped at last, I got turned around and started going in the wrong direction. Now I KNOW I have no sense of direction but that really sucks. Anyway, fortunately I was able to do a UTURN down the road because there wasn’t any traffic. The travelling has been very easy – not much traffic.

Drove by Monument Valley today – found out at dinner that it isn’t open – glad I didn’t take a side trip there:

Here is another picture from the road:

When I got to Old West RV Park, I spoke to the “Camp Host” Terry – he had just started here the last time I was here. He said there is a “ton” to do around this area. A free campsite would be fun in a place like this – not too much work. He only works half a day and lives in his RV in a full hook up spot for FREE! Here is a picture of the place from before to refresh your memory:

Last time I was here – I stayed 2 nights – can’t really remember why I decided to do that but it is a quiet, peaceful place. When I left here last time, I took the wrong way and my GPS took me an hour out of my way and just circled me around past this place again – I remember thinking…….look – there are two Old West RV Parks – then I realized it was the same place – that pissed me off, but oh well.

I have to go now. I’m chairing at Naples Group and now that I have strong internet I should be able to be there.

Jim invited me to a “campfire” tonight. I think I’ll go. I’ll be back to finish this – perhaps with a story or two. Green chili and corn on the cob. Really good! Not fattening – although I did have a piece of cornbread.

Daisy in her spot – dinner under the lean-too

Jim the owner is on the left next to where I was sitting – no masks, but a 6 shooter on his hip!  He is a competitive shooter and is going shooting tomorrow.  He’s a great guy!  I like his little place!

Faye Roland is celebrating 31 years!  I sent her this by email!  Hope she checks her email!

I guess that is about it for now.  I think I’ll read a little until sundown and then go out for a walk.  It’s great to be on the road again.  I’m glad tomorrow is a shorter day.

I got an email from AARP and they had an interesting article about taxes.  So here is a map of the states that don’t tax 401K or IRA’s:

Notice that Arizona is not one of the states but Florida is so I guess that answers my question about staying a Florida resident.  I guess now I’ll just need to be out of Arizona for 4 months somehow – I guess that means a summer in Yellowstone, plus side trips in other months.  I wonder if they really know that sort of thing.  Anyway, this way I’ll stop obsessing about residency and also Tony G will still do my taxes based on residency in Florida.

Have you ever thought about getting a simple compass? that way you would know which way you are going and won’t waste time and gas on turn arounds.
