Good Morning Road Warriors!  Today is THE DAY!  We’re embarking on a brand new adventure!  Here we are patiently waiting:

Mama Bear & Papa Bear waiting patiently

I was going to drive them out and then hook them up on the road and plug in with the extension cord for the night, but decided against it – why not just leave her hooked up on the slab.  We’ll see how stressful this is today as I set out for the 4 hour ride to Las Cruces.  I’m planning to leave between 9AM & 10AM.  So keep us in your prayers as we travel the road to happy destiny.  I’ll keep adding to this post to document this excellent adventure.  I’m going to pack up the computer and I’ll continue once I get to Las Cruces.  Happy trails everyone!

Jan sent me this great picture of her husband Michael and her.  I’ve put it as her profile picture on my phone.

This is the “outfit” Metaxa will have on when we travel:

Metaxa on leash

eght I got up early for the 8AM Eastern meeting so now I wait for 9AM my time to pull out.  I left on 9 on the nose!  Settled Metaxa in the back seat.  She was quiet until I coughed & then she started to talk a bit.  Nothing bad, just wanted me to know she was there.  I drove for 3 hours & stopped for a break & thought I’d fill up.

Stopped at an exit in New Mexico that looked good & it was advertising that it was the Continental Divide.  Got off the highway & there was an old gas station but no pumps.  I needed to pee & change into shorts anyway so it was good for a break.  Lots of room to turn & get back on the highway.  So then I stopped at the next exit & filled up.  It was expensive & if I had just waited until the next exit I would have saved $.25 a gallon.  Oh well-it only took $43 worth of gas & I made it to the KOA in Las Cruces & I’m still full.  Good start for tomorrow.  I bought a sticker & a magnet for my collections.  I’ll add pictures here when I have better internet.

Metaxa is doing so well!  Here she is chilling on the bed.

It’s hot here so we’re inside with the AC on.  I’m looking forward to getting further north so we can turn that noise maker off, although it drowns out the neighbors.  I plan to take a shower in the morning in their bathroom so I can take a long, leisurely shower & wash my hair.  I’ll probably be on the road by 9.  It’s a bit longer tomorrow.

I’m avoiding Albuquerque.  Thought I’d try this route.   Well good intentions!  I could not find the turn I was supposed to find getting out of Las Cruces, so I decided to take I25 all the way through Albuquerque.  As it turned out it was fine.  I25 is nothing like I10 with all of the trucks.  I was alone on the highway a lot & could stay at 65 mph.  I was looking for

gas & discovered this place:

It was an RV Park that sold gas.  It was lucky I got there too because there was no gas until I got to the next Loves 1/2 a tank away.  This is a view of the Rio Grande from the store.

Another thing that was fun was this happened:

It’s a picture of Metaxa sitting on my lap.  Not sure it’s such a great idea, but it makes me feel good.

I’m having trouble with this putting in pictures so I’m just going to tell the story and then maybe put pictures in when I get better internet.

I’m settled at Rancheros de Santa Fe.  It’s an “off the beaten path” RV park just past Santa Fe.  It is at 7900 elevation so I don’t need to put the AC on.  Good breezes and comfortable temperature – in fact it is 80 degrees in the rig.  It says it’s supposed to be 37 tonight.  THAT’S COLD.  May need the sleeping bag and the heater.  Sure glad I’m hooked up to electric.  I thought I found out that the black tank was full, but I was looking at the fresh tank and it is full and the black tank is 1/3.  So I’ve got space.  It’s a good thing too because the sewer is too far away from the rig now.  It reminded me though that I should have that sewer connection, that I had on the front porch but I left it there not thinking I would ever need it.  I could have used it here – but fortunately, I don’t need to dump my tank and now I’ll be more careful when I set up with full hook-ups.

Another thing I forgot to do was make a copy of my check off list.  All of the columns are used up and I need it every day – 25 times to be exact minus about 10 days when we’ll be sitting.  Lucky I marked it in pencil.  I can erase them if needed.

So there is the nicest rig next to me from Florida.  It has lots of bells and whistles – internet, TV cable etc.  It’s a campervan and I can’t see the brand, but all of the outside stuff looks really well done – it’s a Platinum XL.  I’ll google it.  It’s a Coach House RV – never heard of it.  Really sleek!  It looks sleek like an Airstream – no RV Paint job.  Plus it’s Gerzeny!  WOW!  Small world.  Probably $100K.  WRONG:  $200K!!!!  They are going to have a fire and friends over tonight.  Makes me want to be camping with Bill and Cathy!
