RV Life with Mama & Papa #29 Tuesday, July 20, 2021

Good Morning Everyone!  Yesterday I went on a wonderful adventure.  I went to Chiricahua National Monument.  It was really interesting.  I found out that it isn’t a “monument” like the Washington Monument, but rather land that is set aside for protection.  The place is amazing.  I wanted to check out the campground for an opportunity to camp there in Mama at a later date so I just drove over in Papa Bear.  It was about 60 miles – it took a little over an hour to get there.  I took dash cam video, but I’m not sure how well it came out.  The battery was low and it kept turning off.  Then I realized that I didn’t have the adaptor in all the way.  Anyway, I’ll get with that later to see how it turned out and add some video here if I get it to work ok.  But I did take some pictures.

Welcome Sign

This is a national monument so I need to remember to bring my Passport to get it stamped next time. I will be back – not to camp but to take a hike and drive the 6 mile road to Massai point. It was really neat! I’m going to check out campgrounds in Portal – specifically Idelwilde – to see if I can overnight there. That’s a trip for another day!

Designation of types of rock formations

It was really cool driving up the road to Massai Point.  There was a little hut up there that explained the views from each window.  Here is a video of my “hike” to the top:

Massai Point at Chiricahua National Monument.

I took a short panaramic view of the rocks from Massai point also:

I noticed on my way down the mountain, that there were some “stopping points” where some of the more recognizable outcroppings occurred.  I’ll need to do that next time I go.  The weather is a little uncertain right now with Monsoon season in full glory.  I had to drive through some “flooded” areas on the road coming home.  I was glad I was in Papa Bear – no issue!

Rocks and more rocks!

And more rocks!

It was a great little outing.  Now I’m going to try to get my dashcam videos to upload.  But before that, Jeff Bezos went to space today:

This is an interesting flight. The crew is Bezos, his brother, Wally – a woman in her 70’s that wanted to go into space, but they weren’t letting women fly to space in her day, and a young 18 year old boy whose father “paid” for the opportunity to fly. Interesting group. They are flying out of West Texas and the temp is in the 70’s this morning. The flight took about 11 minutes. WOW – that’s a lot of money for a short trip. ANYWAY – it would be nice to use that money on other things that are in need of support, but I guess it’s good that they are doing this. Maybe it will prove to be a good use of money for the future. I’m going to try to link the video of the launch here – not sure I can do it. Will need to find a new one on YouTube. I couldn’t copy the link from my picture. Be right back:

Jeff Bazos coming back from space!

This was pretty cool. Lot’s of money, but very exciting. So now back to my exciting day yesterday. I have 6 videos to add here from my Dash Cam: Disappointed they won’t play – I’m thinking maybe they take a while to “download”. I’ll come back again later to see if they work. Otherwise, I guess I’ll just need to keep them for myself. I know that’s selfish!

You’ll need to click the link. Hopefully it will work. This is the first video

In my last blog, some of the Dash Cam Videos would not play in here.  They look good now, but we’ll see how they work when I open this blog post again.  The trip was really amazing by the way.  It was well worth the 3 hour round trip.  I’m going to go to Portal next time and check out the other campgrounds to see if there is electric at their sites.

I decided to go on another adventure today – I wanted to go to check out a campground in Bowie, AZ named Mountain View RV Park.  SO I packed a lunch and hopped in Papa Bear and took off.  It was farther on I 10 than yesterday’s adventure.  The town of Bowie is small and looks a bit like a ghost town.  There is a plantation of Pistachio trees and it seems to be about “IT” for the town.  I saw a road off to the left that said there was a National Monument – Ft. Bowie so I decided to try to get to it.  This is what happened:

I found a YouTube video explaining the whole thing.  Let me get it to put here:

Now I never need to go back to this place.  This video did the trick.  It was too scary driving on that dirt road up the canyon.  So glad I’ve decided to take Papa Bear on the adventures prior to hitching up Mama to him.

On my way to Ft. Bowie in Bowie, AZ, I stopped at the Rest Area at Texas Canyon.  Here are some pictures from there.

Tried to give blood today.  But my blood pressure was too low.   Must be this good living and meditation!  Maybe next time!

More will be revealed.  Thanks for visiting!
