RV Life with Mama & Papa #38 Monday, October 4, 2021

Hello fellow travelers!  I’m in Mama & Papa and I’ve traveled only 20 minutes from home to our local State Park at Kartchner Caverns.  I wanted to take a little trip just to go through hooking up and unhooking.  It takes time and a lot of energy.  But here I am – in Site #20 which is facing a different way so I’ll watch sunset from under my awning.  Here we are:

Kartchner – October 2021

I backed her in all by myself, although a guy (James) helped me by directing me once I was in the site.  I did it in about 10 minutes.  Very proud of myself!  When I got here, I was the first one to arrive beside James.  They just opened this upper loop.  I plan on traveling back and forth to the house.  I need to get my meals put away on Wednesday and I’m meeting Sue in Tucson for lunch on Tuesday.  That should be fun.  I think I’ll just drive home tomorrow and take my shower in the morning and leave Mama here.  She’s all locked up and should be fine.

Look what just happened:

So I took a walk around the campground and saw some very interesting RV’s. First of all, look at this – never saw this before:

Tents in Site 1

More Tents in Site 2

Those are the pull throughs – preferred sites if you ask me.  Wonder what that group is.  Next to me there is a family with an old Pop-Up and they put up another tent for overflow.  I think it’s a couple of families.  There is a couple across from me in an RPod.  There is a late model Airstream.  There is a guy living out of a truck with a tent next to him – he looks old.  Then there is a guy with an Imagine Fifth Wheel with a prosthetic leg.  Then there is a woman living out of an ELEMENT.  But the most interesting combo I saw today was this:

Magic Bus!

That would be interesting to see the inside of. WOW! The other RV’s are mostly Class C’s. But there was this one too:

Reminds me of OLIVI@

It’s getting dark now.  I don’t want to close up Mama’s windows tonight.  I’ll see how it goes.  I need to go out and put the chairs in the exoskeleton so they won’t blow away and also, put away the wind chimes for the night.  I’d hate for them to “go missing” in the middle of the night.  At least the outside light will go on and scare someone if they come through the camp.  I’m only expecting the “kids” to do something like that.  I miss Metaxa but I think it’s better that she is home.

Love this view!

I’m continuing this on Wednesday now. To back track a little though, I drove to Tucson to meet Sue for lunch. We had a nice lunch outside at a nice Italian restaurant named Trattoria Pina. It had a wonderful menu. I decided on a salad, but next time I probably will have a panini. I miss those & there were many choices. They make their own Ciabatta bread. It reminded me of Naples & Ridgway’s. Which also reminded me that Tony Ridgway celebrated 50 years in the restaurant business in Naples on October 4th. Saw a nice article about it on FB. We are going to meet up on Sunday at a Flea Market in Tucson. She is going on a trip next summer with RVW to the Maritime Provinces in Canada. I got an email about it yesterday-ironically- and it got me thinking maybe I should do it too. Problem is, it’s over 3 months on the road. That’s a LONG time to be away (although it would get me out of the heat). I’m thinking I should go away, but I think I’d like to stay near Flagstaff instead & get a free site for camp hosting. Anyway lots to think about. But I digress.

Sunrise this morning:

I also accomplished this today:

So today I decided to do what I set out to do which was to take a hike with my personal GPS. I connected it to my phone. It really uses up my battery life. It took me exactly two hours to do the hike.

Here is the route as shown on my phone which was connected to my GPS:

I really love this. It makes me feel pretty safe going by myself. So here is a video of the start of my hike.

View on the hike: BTW, I’m editing this at home on my iPad because I needed to get my Metaxa fix, & put my Tovala meals away. So back to the videos:

So proud I figured out how to do that!

Not sure why it has that little blue dot in it.

Now I’m back at Mama Bear. Will spend the night and hook up in the morning. Plan to be out by 11 but not much sooner. Loved this little camping trip.

Here are a few pictures from my trek yesterday on the Foothills LOOP:

And another: This is the bench where the trail goes up to a peak for a beautiful panoramic view – maybe next time:

Here is another:

This is a picture of a Mortar Bedrock where ancient Indians ground their flour and other items.

As you come to the end of the trail, there is a cool picture of the sky through the Discovery Center building:

I’m all set to leave now:

Hooked up and ready to leave

Decided last minute to DUMP Mama:

Last minute decision to DUMP

Lucky I did that when I did because a camper came in just as I was leaving. I did forget to close the Black tank, but thought of it before I left the park. So many steps!

I guess that’s it for now.  I’ll continue with this later or tomorrow.  Thanks for visiting!
