Good Morning World and Bill and Cathy!
So yesterday I had a day off for “after picnic” rest. I actually could have gone to work because I did all of the accounting on Sunday after the event. We made $1,585.00 even with adding $500 in for food this year. Every year Bruce McAndrews shops and pays for the food for this picnic. It’s his way of “giving back”. He likes doing it! But our committee is accumulating a lot of money and we’re being questioned about our “prudent reserve” (which has never really been established). I think we spend about $6,000 a year on literature for the jails. I’ve been the treasurer for the committee ever since Dick Carter died about 4 years ago. I love this committee. I don’t take meetings into the jail any longer but working on the picnic and doing the banking makes me feel a “part of”. Let’s see if I can get some pictures from the picnic:
In the background, you can see me and Betsy at the “door” collecting money from all 87 walk-ins. I counted about 133 attendees. It was really fabulous. Most people brought their own chairs, but we also had 60 rental chairs. We couldn’t decide when to have the speaker. The ticket said 11:30 and then someone said the flyer said 2PM so we decided to “split the difference” and we had him speak at 1PM. We fed everyone from Noon to 1, but there was left over food, so there was stuff to eat until the end. I saw left over cookies go out to Bruce’s car. I also saw left over tomatoes. So his shopping was great this year. Next year we should have the picnic say 11 to 3 since no one comes before about that time. Just the committee. I think the cooks (John and Ralph) worked hard at getting the cooking done. I’m not sure since I never got over there. Christine stepped up to sell the sodas and I was really proud of her! They brought in $79 but everyone got the first soda “free” and then it was $1.00. The star of the show, as always was Polly! She sold the 50/50 raffle tickets. She got $490.00 to split. The winner donated the money back so we got all of the money – thus we are able to pay Bruce for the food. The other thing about paying for the food this year, is we’ll have a shopping list to use in case Bruce moves away or something. That would be a pretty big loss and I don’t think that’s going to happen, but you never know with “drunks”. We do strange things occasionally! The other thing we needed to get at the last minute was “Hand Sanitizer” for the Portajohns! I can’t believe they bring those things without any kind of sanitizer – what a rip off! We’ll have our meeting tonight so I can give my report then. Anyway, it was a wonderful event! Glad it’s over…..now on to The Gratitude Dinner! Busy month! But I’m going to get 3 days in a row off. Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving and Black Friday! Looking forward to my “mini” vacation!
Well, I’m out of time today. Thanks for visiting! I’ll leave you with this:
Love that cat!
