Hello Everyone,
I skipped yesterday. Got caught up in “projects” yesterday morning and ran out of time. I love getting up early – I say that because the cats won’t let me sleep, but also it gets me going so I’m bright and ready for work when I get there. Today’s post is all about:
I have this thing about technology – I love, love, love, LOVE IT! I am only sorry I didn’t know that when I was a kid so I’d have a different career now, but as we all know, our path is our path and “it is what it is”! So I’m in Connecticut sitting at my cousin’s desk using his lap top checking my emails. Low and behold, Amazon sends me a personal message that offers me this new Paperwhite Kindle for 20% Off. Such a deal – $99. I bought a Kindle Fire a few years ago because I didn’t want to spend $800 (in those days) for an iPad. The Kindle Fire is awesome. It’s a little hand held computer that has games on it, can check my email, can go to FB and also go to this website if I want. Plus it can play music with earphones, download Netflix Movies (which I use all of the time), give you Newspapers from around the world etc., etc. It’s pretty cool. I had an original Kindle way back when that had the little “clicking” buttons on the sides that made the pages move. I loved that Kindle but the Fire got my attention so I sent my original Kindle to my brother Bill who wanted another one. The greatest thing about a Kindle is that it can hold a bunch of books and if you live in an RV like they do, there isn’t much room for physical books. So he has my Kindle 1. So along comes the Kindle Fire (Kindle 2). I love it too, but the greatest claim to fame about the original Kindle is that you can take it outside and read it in the sun if you want and the Kindle Fire has a black screen like my iPhone and forget about trying to read it outside. No big deal, I’m usually on the couch or in bed when I read it so it doesn’t matter so much about that issue. So along comes Amazon with a 20% discount on the Kindle Paperwhite and now it’s back to the “out in the sunshine” screen. Gotta Have It! So I activated my “one click” and in 2 days I have a sweet little box from Amazon on my porch (Mary’s Kindle 3). YIPPEE!!!!!! It is adorable. Little bitty and light as anything. Can be held in one hand (which is important when you have a cat that decides it is OK to rest on your stomach – an extra hand to pet them is important!). It comes already loaded with all of my books (89 from the Cloud) – How does that work anyway? – I’ll have to take a class one day or just go to YouTube and type in: How does the cloud work so all my Kindle books are there? Amazing what YouTube has on it. But then again I suppose I could ask “SIRI” on my phone, I wonder what he’ll say – I think I’ll try it and let you know. SIRI gives me information on the Artist Arthur Hacker – but he did say “OK Check it out”. So funny! Will still need a class I think. Another thing for my Bucket List. Now back to Mary’s Kindle 3. It is a “swipe” technology. No noise. It has access to the Amazon store (of course), has a built in light, the battery lasts for weeks, books download instantly and the best part – as opposed to APPLE, the charger is the same as the one for the Kindle Fire – no new plug accessory to buy – another “savings”! (It comes with a plug with a USB end). Another sweet little box is coming today from Amazon with a cover for the Kindle 3. Can’t wait to get home today!
OK so now that I’ve completely bored you with my technology trivia on to another subject. I’m selling tickets to the Corrections Picnic on October 26th – $10 if anyone wants one (Steve – I’m talking to you!). At the same time, we’ll be selling tickets to the Gratitude Dinner – we haven’t determined the price yet but I’m guessing $30. I hope they go for $25 so people think it is a “bargain” and would be $10 less than last year our “25th Anniversary”. Of course, I’m managing all of the ticket sales AGAIN. This year – I’m REALLY done with the Gratitude Tickets. I’ll do the Picnic tickets because there are only 250 to manage.
Time to wrap it up. Thanks for coming by for a visit and coffee!
