Hello Steve!
So last night we lost power in the middle of the night. It was off for about 2 hours. I was a little surprised that it happened because I didn’t hear any bad weather going on. I was thinking about how my life has changed over the years. I now only have an iPhone and not a land line. I love my iPhone 5c. Now that they have the iPhone 6, I’m not sure I like it all that much. And I saw last night that over 4M were presold and they haven’t been released yet. I think that happens tomorrow. Did I see where they cost $650 or was it $450? Either way it’s a lot of money for a phone. Anyway, the bigger screen is nice but using the bigger screen as a phone is weird I think. It would be like putting an iPad mini at your ear. I guess you are just supposed to talk into it and carry on your conversation, but I hate overhearing people talk on their phones – I don’t really want to know their business and I don’t particularly like them hearing my business either. I guess that is why I don’t like talking on the phone so much. I prefer texting. Of course that is a little selfish I suppose. But it all got me thinking about how technology is running our lives. I have to admit I love technology and I wish that some of this stuff had been around when I was in college so that I’d be in that career now. I remember that in college, we had a “computer” that worked by putting paper with holes in it through a slot. What was that about? Then the next time I was introduced to computers, it was when I worked at The Community School and I learned on a big Commodore computer. All pretty basic stuff, but once I learned how to type on a computer that “wrapped” the typing, I was “hooked”! That was 35 years ago (at least). I remember my first computer – I forget what I had, but it was one of those big fat monitors and I put it in a closet in the guest bedroom when I was married and living in Aqualane Shores. My parents came to visit and I remember showing my mom how it worked. She had been a secretary when she was working, and she couldn’t figure out the “wrapping” thing. She still wanted to hit the carriage back. It was totally foreign to her. She never “got” the computer. Now I have 2 Kindles. I think I’ve talked about them before, but I’m amazed at how they work. They are truly mini computers! Such a cool thing.
It just started raining. I get a little “push” on the phone indicating that a “severe” storm is coming from an News app. I better go dry my hair, in case the electricity goes out again. I’m going to publish this “as is” and go back to it after I dry my hair, if I have time. If not I’ll finish it later.
So no loss of electricity yet.
I was reading the Box 459 last night before I went to sleep. It has a big article in about the redesigned AA Website. I noticed that it had a new look a while back, but I didn’t realize it was only launched in June. It really does have a better look and seems to be more usable. It has a lot of information about “being of service” and that is my way of staying sober so I know it works for me. It has the ability to find “workbooks” and other literature for committees. I have my monthly Grapevine Meeting tonight so I think I’ll bring my laptop and we can navigate around the site so we get the word out about this to our groups. Then on Friday, we are supposed to have a “business meeting” (it is the 3rd Friday – afterall) and I’ll mention it there too.
So I put information about the 2015 International Convention on the calendar at our www.aanaples.org in July 2015. I wanted to put on a link to the registration page and also put up the flyer about the Bozos on The Bus. Putting up the flyer about the bus trip was pretty easy – that process hasn’t changed all that much – I still do it by putting the PDF on “docs” at Filezilla and then I just copy a link from another event and change the name of the PDF to the new name. But doing the link for the registration was a little different. At first it didn’t work – it kinda got me there, but was wrong. Then I realized I was missing a ” at the end of the string. So I got it to work. I have to say I was “pretty impressed with myself” (that’s me patting me on the back) that I got it to work. Now I need to give credit to Bob for his patient teaching of “code” to me. Gary doesn’t like that “code” stuff, but knows it is needed at times and he knows how to do it in a “pinch”. So now the information about the Convention is on both the IG website and the District 20 website (it’s the same calendar) – Gary figured out how to connect that, so I’m contributing to the District 20 website also.
Okay – time is up again. Have a beautiful day today – stay dry(from the rain and sober too)!

HA! Mary, it occurs to me why I procrastinate going forward with WordPress–I simply have been piggy-backing on your website…don’t need my own (Of course I blog on http://www.stfourthdimension.blogspot.com (ahem!)
OH, sometimes I think, “To have had a computer in college with SO much research , complete libraries right on desk at home–I could have learned so much!
“W R O N G !!!!!
It was just “drunk” time, and little else mattered. Add a few years and NOTHING else mattered.
This morning “I READ IT HERE” I went to http://www.aa.org, and took a good look, to see SO much more than just skipping to International Convention News. Someone did a REALLY fine work on that site. Thanks for mentioning.
YOU? Missing a (“) at the end of a line!!! And you caught it!–grin! I recall the time when you had to ask Bob, “What’s wrong here, please help.” And his response, “TRY it..”
Still amazes me how “code” tells Browsers what to do. Had to be a UNIVERSAL cooperative effort on the part of many countries and companies.
I’m gonna go now and finish 2nd half of Thursday. Maybe by night I’ll be another “Bozo on the Bus” If they’re sold out, I’ll be “Insane on the plane”.
