Hello everyone,
I ran out of time yesterday and never got around to posting. Today is FRIDAY – I love FRIDAYS at work. It is just such an accomplishment to get through the whole week and especially since every other FRIDAY is pay day and today is PAYDAY! I’m still amazed about automatic deposits. I wake up on FRIDAY morning of pay day week and my bank account has more money in it. AMAZING!
So Wednesday night I went to the JAIL with Polly. It was really LOUD and distracting in there that night. It’s hard to have a meeting, but the girls that attended were respectful and glad we came. I’d like to see more sharing by them, but Polly likes us to speak and my share is for about 10 minutes and hers completes the hour. They only want 2 people to come in now. Each week it seems they change the rules and procedures. I’m glad I do this, but I’m also glad it is only 1 night a month. I struggle to go to the meeting, though. Up until the last minute I’m thinking of a way not to go. But I know God wants me there, so that’s it and I go. I’m glad when I’ve done it and I’m glad when it’s over.
Last night we had our Gratitude Dinner meeting. Peter, John W., Terri, Bill and I attended. Others expressed an interest in being part of the committee but they continue NOT to show. So our decision is to sell tickets for $30 each. That is $5 less than last year. Peter has the budget tweaked and available for me to use in my “budget” form. John W has secured a speaker from Boca. Her name is “SNOW” P. So now I can get going on the ticket packets. There will be 50 packets of 8 tickets each. We will reserve tables of 8 again and I thought it would be better to have 8 ticket packets so people don’t think they can have 10 people at a table. We are going to try to eliminate 10 tops this year. Peter said that St. Matt’s is doing the Easy Does It anniversary dinner in September. It’s the same thing as a “mini” Gratitude Dinner. Their quote to us was really high so we’re wondering what made the difference. I don’t think the EDI Anniversary Dinner tickets are selling very well. So beginning in September, people will be selling both tickets – the EDI tickets for $25 and the GD tickets for $30. So expect some confusion – we “drunks” are easily confused!
I’ve been seeing a lot of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge all over the place. I even read this morning that Ethel Kennedy challenged President Obama. Could that be true? Anyway, I wonder if they are getting financial support with this challenge. It is giving awareness for ALS, but if you pour a bucket of ice water over your head like I did, you have a pass not to donate. At least I’m not donating and I wonder if others feel the same. I’ve signed up for the Alzheimer Walk on November 15th (same day as the Gratitude Dinner, of course!) and I’ve raised my goal of $500. Started out with a $100 goal and changed it twice. Now I’m listed as the 2nd highest fund raiser behind a guy who has raised $850. The donations for this fundraiser looks like they are behind. But like everything, people wait until the last minute to “get going” on this type of thing. I’m just glad I reached my goal back in May. It doesn’t seem like much else has happened recently. The web based fundraising site is pretty awesome. I posted it the other day here, but in case you missed it the link is: http://act.alz.org/goto/mbbalz. I’m not opposed to having more people donate even though I have reached my goal. I may re advertise this on FB to see if I get any “takers” or “givers”!
Well tomorrow is the Picnic at Wiggins. It’s gonna be hot and I’m packing up things right now to be ready. I have my “purple” flower vase to put on the entrance table so we “sneak” in advertising for The Grapevine. I’ll also wear my purple sun shirt, so it will be subliminal or obvious if you read this. So I probably won’t be posting tomorrow, but you never know with me. I’ll be up early as usual and will keep busy until I need to leave for Wiggins. It’s a long drive – at least 40 minutes. It’s amazing how big this town can be – now that I live out “EAST”. But maybe I’ll take 75 and it won’t take as long. We’ll see.
Have a great day today!
