Hello Everyone,

Well yesterday was the Intergroup Picnic.  I really had a great time but it was SO DARN HOT!  Today, I am stiff all over.  There was no breeze where we were standing but at least it was shady.  We collected $410 at the door.  So that means at least 205 people paid to get in at $2 a pop.  There was also $400 for the 50/50 raffle raised.  The speaker was wonderful and had a good story – his name was Ron.  I’ve seen him around.  Two other “speakers” fell out, so he stepped in at the last moment.  That is typical of our fellowship.  We don’t like to “commit”.  Anyway he was great and the group there was very respectful.  The Blu Tones (2 Tones) played for a while.  We had parking issues and that was something that created some resentments.  I was sorry that Steve was feeling ill and had to leave.  I think it was just too hot for him (true Steve?) but I was happy he wasn’t driving and his sponsee gave him a ride home.  The food was great.  Bill, Roy and John did all of the cooking.  There was plenty of food.  2 macaroni recipes were judged.  Maybe that will be bigger next year.  Plenty of side dishes and chips and desserts.  Never saw the hoola hoop competition but that was probably at the beach and I never got out there.  Haven and Steve and I were at the front table selling tickets.  Thank goodness for Haven being there for support.  I really appreciated that.  AND she was dressed in purple in honor of The Grapevine committee.  I had the Grapevine Flowers on the table too.  I had tickets for the Corrections Picnic with me, but never brought them out – too crazy at the table.  The food line should have been double sided – it took me 20 minutes to work my way through it.  We ran out of Hamburger Rolls, but there were plenty of Hot Dog buns – I’m off of bread so I didn’t care.  I did get a little macaroni and cheese – which was really good.  I skipped dessert.  My only issue was that there was no one “monitoring” the tickets for food.  My thought was that people would come up to the table and turn in their ticket to someone so it looked like there was “accountability”.  That never happened and people were getting a hot dog and a hamburger, when it really should have been one or the other.  But there was food until the 1PM time so that was fine.  We never ran out of food.  I was pleasantly surprised that I got a parking place by the entrance to the pavillion when I arrived at 10:15 and they only charged me $4 because I was a single in the car.  That was a nice surprise.  Gave me money for the hamburger without the bun I ate!

One of the greatest things for me at the picnic was to see John F and John L there.  I’m happy to see that John F is still in the program.  I was surprised to see John L there, and he had to introduce himself to me as I didn’t recognize him.  We worked together at Moorings Park years ago.  He left when there was a “change” in dining services to GSI.  He did start with GSI, but left after a while.  He as really good at his job there as dining room manager.  He now works at Bay Colony but they lay off workers in the summer so he isn’t working right now.  He said he had 30 days.  He told me he and his wife Jennifer divorced last year, she still works (13 years now) at Bayside.  I always like John L.  He was pretty laid back but a kind soul.  I’m glad he has Joe P as his sponsor.  I hope he “gets” it and sees that his life had become “unmanageable”.

The next exciting thing to come up is the registration for the 2015 International AA Convention in Atlanta.  On line registration begins on Sept. 3rd at 6AM.  You can bet I’ll be doing that.  I received the applications in the mail and I’ll take them to Walk the Steps with Women next Friday.  Didn’t make it to the meeting last week which was supposed to be the business meeting (the 3rd Friday) but I’ve heard the business meeting will be this coming Friday.  More shall be revealed.

I am planning to go to the gym after church today.  At least at this moment I am.  But first I need to get a “baby” present for Jessica.  Her baby shower was yesterday while we were at the picnic.  I HATE BABY showers or any kind of showers really.  I just don’t like being there and I know it is so exciting for the new mommas or brides.  I just don’t like them and I’m better off not going to them rather than bringing my negative feelings to them.  I love Jessica and I think she’ll be a wonderful mom.  I’m sure she’ll fit into the “super mom” category.

I forgot that I had a hair appointment yesterday.  I got a call from Karen reminding me, but I was still at Wiggins when the appointment was.  I called her back but haven’t heard back from her.  I guess I’ll call her on Tuesday (she is off Sunday and Monday).  I’m not trusting my phone that all things work all the time with that.  I know emails get “lost”.  I suppose she may not have received my message, but then again, maybe she just didn’t acknowledge it.  I know she loses money when people “no show”.  I haven’t done that in a while.  The appointment was on my calendar – I just skipped it due to the picnic distraction.

It’s time to go.  Got to dry my hair and get going to church.  Have a beautiful day – unless you have other plans.
