Hello Everyone,

Today is Cathy Bass’ birthday!  I have no idea how old she is but I know she is younger than me.  Cathy and my brother Bill live in a big ole RV trailer that is hooked up to a big ole FORD truck.  She sent a picture of the “new” truck to me the other day – wonder if I can find it.  But I bet I can find it on FB – let me try.  Can’t find the truck, but found a great picture of them……

I love these two!

I love these two!

They really inspire me.  They have been married for many years – many more than me – maybe not quite as long as Jon (but he’s been married twice), but their marriage is really great.  I miss them a lot and I think I heard they are coming back “EAST” this fall.  I might be wrong about that, but I hope so.  Their life is amazing to me.  They have a blog.  Let me see if I can figure out how to insert the link here so you can learn about them also.  Let’s see……http://www.viewsfromtheopenroad.blogspot.com/

Look Steve, they use “blogspot” too.  Anyway that will tell you everything about them – more than you probably want to know, but this blogging thing is “in the family”.  They have been bogging “forever” it seems.  Their email is even @billandcap.com.  They have been retired the longest in our family.  And they’ve done it twice.  I’m the last one working in my family and I’ll probably work for many more years.  I think even in retirement, I’ll be working because otherwise, I’ll just sit around and worry about everything.  Work gives me something to do and puts a little money in my pocket so I can buy all of the electronics that are ever invented.  I think I have enough for now – but we’ll see – something will probably get me excited again.

So the other day I was watching something on TV and there was something about how much it costs to raise a kid.  It was some astounding number like $250,000.00 and that didn’t include college costs.  So I’m wondering – where did I put all that money?

Got a message this morning when I woke up from an old friend, Thomas Capobianco (Cappy – to me).  Anyway, Cappy was a manager for us back in the days of The Chef’s Garden.  He was so funny and a lot of fun to be around.  He moved back to Pennsylvania – I have no idea why – and worked in College Food Service for a lot of years.  Not sure what he is doing now.  We used to laugh so much when we played golf – usually a little drunk – or really drunk – at Riviera.  It is a “3 par” golf course and back then it belonged to my friend Debi Dougherty’s family.  Not sure if her brother still runs it.  Anyway, we all sucked at golf but I just remember laughing all of the time when we played – perhaps it was the beer?  Cappy’s birthday is Christmas Eve – now that really sucks too, but it is what it is.  I try to remember to send him a birthday greeting.  Christmas Eve is also Carl Swartz’ birthday.  Carl was a manager for us also for a lot of years – he even made it to our catering business as a manager until he had to be put in rehab.  Last I heard, Carl was doing “handiman” stuff.  Funniest thing about Carl was that he was really young when he was working for us and he spoke REALLY fast.  “freshlysauteedmushrooms” came out as one word.  When his wife was pregnant, he would rush up to a table and tell everyone that his wife may have her baby that night so he wanted to be sure to get through their meal service.  I think he made lots of money that way and it was a stitch!  He milked that for years!

Well now I’ve run out of time and need to get rolling to get ready for work.  Have a great day – whoever reads this – beside me and Steve!
