Good Morning Friday, December 6, 2014

Hello World,

Happy Payday Off Friday!  Up early with the kitties then back to bed for a whole hour more of sleep.  Working on my first cup of coffee so things are looking up.  I’ve got a lot planned today and that is so good!

Just thought I’d mention once again that we’ve elected new officers for the steering committee at Intergroup.  Here are the results:

IG Steering Committee 2015

IG Steering Committee 2015

Polly and I got to “count” the votes since we couldn’t vote because we were not IG Reps.  That worked out well.  We voted first thing at the meeting which was a little unusual and seemingly disorganized but it all worked out so I guess it was fine!  I am lucky that I am involved at both Intergroup and District 20.  I’ve decided that I’m growing more involved with AA as time goes on.  I’ve always been involved but I’m enjoying it a lot more now.  It may be because I’ve found a “Home Group” with The Naples Group.  The “Oldest” Group in Naples – started in 1954 – 60 years.  Almost as old as me!  There was a business meeting last night at the Naples Group and there were at least 25 people there.  There was a time back a few years when there were only 10 or so running that Group.  Even last night there were 2 new members and they were “young girls”!  The Young People in Naples AA are pretty amazing.  I signed up for “cookies” for February 5th.  I learned from Ralph and Heather that I can buy 120 uncooked Chocolate Chip cookies at GFS near Costco and it is under $20.  I could be “reimbursed” for that, but probably won’t.  I need to find a “platter” to use and buy prior to that time.  I think I’ll experiment with doing the cookies and take them into work to give away.  I’m sure I’ll find something at Walmart that will work.  At our business meeting, we talked about the “anniversary” dinner.  It is set for the last Thursday in February – the 26th, 2015.  That’s good because I have the 27th off because it is a PayDay.  I’ll probably leave at 12:30 that day and take 4 more hours PTO so I can go in and help “set up”.  What I like about this dinner is that it can only accommodate 120 people.  Once the tickets are sold – it’s over and those tickets sell out every year – I like that!  Another discussion was with Polly about helping do the centerpieces.  She offered to do them for the Gratitude Dinner this year but the steering committee said “no”.  I thought that was a mistake.  But so what did they use this year at the Gratitude Dinner?  Glass vases like she used last year for the Naples Group and I don’t think they were as “imaginative”.  They looked fine, but Polly’s were more distinctive.  Here is what they looked like:

I was brainstorming with Polly last night and offered to help her.  But after looking at these again, they are really perfect!  Maybe another picture of AA History could be used – the two pictures of Dr. Bob and Bill W.?  Then they could be “collectors”.  We’d have the 60th Anniversary Edition and then the 61st Anniversary Edition Etc.  She has a routine about how she does them – she does them over Christmas Vacation and can “knock them out”.  Remember, we’re only talking 15 Tables of 8 – not 40 like at the Gratitude Dinner.  So if she makes 20 of them they could be “sold” or given away as prizes.  “Anniversary Edition” sounds pretty inviting.  Okay so I have my “assignment” for today.  Look for old pictures to use to make up some “potential” Anniversary Edition Centerpiece Candles!  Fun!

So I guess that’s all for now.  I’m on a mission now – more coffee!

The Naples group, my first meeting in Alcoholics Anonymous, also my introduction into a new way of life. I did not know it then. And I have not have a drink since. It just is not in my universe. They say to not talk like that, better people than me have gone out to do some more “research”. Sorry, liquor industry. I’m a FREE man, just not a slave to your product any more…

Mary, I started out (again) with nothing to say. Well, you know how THAT is. I told Polly how much “at home” I feel at Naples Group…it is the one I have witnessed grow–from my day ONE!!

And YESSS…Polly is remembered always for many services she’s performing…not the least of which is the most unique set of table decorations which are SO much more than that. They are works of art, which have special meaning for all.

Enjoy your long weekend. I remember only too well, how important are those days away from the job.

    PEACE and LIGHT!

Days away from the job!! YES! I’ve still got over 400 hours of PTO (Paid Time Off). I’m giving some away to our Partners in Caring program.
