Today is Sunday and that means church for me. I belong to a small church with a big heart. Full of loving, caring people. I’m an Elder in this church but I’m on sabbatical right now. That means I don’t participate in the Elder duties since I’ve done it for 5 years. I still stay active in setting up each Sunday and sending out the calendar for the month. We don’t have a building, we meet in a dance studio that we set up for Sunday services each week. We hope to have a permanent space one day. We sold our old church to a Jewish group and we also sold our parking lot property (which is being developed right now and a huge building is taking up the space). So that means we have some money to invest in something, although we’d need to buy it outright as we don’t have the funds or membership to support a mortgage. Our church has gone through much transition during my time there (about 7 years or so) but the church began back in the 50’s. I’m glad I found this group of people and I’m interested in how we will continue to sustain ourselves. Our Senior Pastor, Michael Junkroski, started out with us as our Music Minister. When Bruce Frogge left for Texas, Michael stayed on with us. He is going to school and is very close to finishing his schooling to become an ordained Pastor. I really admire his work ethic and his dedication to this little church family. He is a truly gifted man in so many ways – especially as a musician. I knew him way back when I was married and we had parties at our house – his band would come and play. He owned a computer company at one point in his life so he has had an interesting life. Our associate Pastor is Cathy O’Connell, who came to us initially as Michael’s mentor through his schooling. Her background is more formal and they work well together. She brings a lot to our church and is willing to offer her help without much compensation – which is fortunate for us.
On a new subject, I’m planning to go to the Moorings Park gym today after church. It is going to become my new “routine” since my Health Assessment indicated I needed more exercise, and my waistline is indicating the same thing. I went yesterday and stayed about 45 minutes. I’m planning to stay longer today – we’ll see.
