Good Morning Monday, December 22, 2014

Hello world,

I know that the “world” is out there “lurking” in the shadows of cyberspace.  If I were paranoid, I’d shut this little puppy down, but really I’m not too concerned about it.  Although Steve is dealing with a “virus” that I had once on my computer.  I took it to Office Depot and they “cleaned” it up.  It was in the shop for 3 days and cost a couple hundred dollars.  I was having withdrawal, although I have 3 other computers now (not counting my iPhone) that can take up the slack, but I’d really miss my laptop.  I love this little machine.  Even though it isn’t an “Apple”.  I love the feel of the keyboard and it is SO FAST.  My poor ole Desktop is running slow and mean.  It’s Windows XP and isn’t supported any longer by Microsoft.  I get that, but I still use it and I love the screen I have for it.  But I discovered a couple of things about it that have made me happy.  I’ve moved a “picture” file to my “dropbox” and now I know that works.  Remember this picture?

Eating Lobster

That is now in my “drop box” of pictures.  Here is another from that fantastic trip to the Cape a few years ago.  How many? I can’t really remember, but Dick would know – he could tell me:

Lighthouse on Cape Cod

I took this picture with my little digital camera.  I’ve always felt it was one of those “ah ha” pictures.  All the colors came together at the same time and the picture is so GREAT (GRAPE).  I think I even “cropped” it at one point and eliminated those “strangers” on the right side.  Anyway, my point (what’s your point Mary) is that now I can save the pictures I want to save in “dropbox” and go find them without having to email them to me and then downloading them again.  This is really a “Breakthrough”.  But the “dropbox” thing is also prone to “hackers” but it’s the world we live in now.  I’m not sure it’s as bad as the “cloud” for saving things, but it may be.  So now if I move all my memorable pictures to Dropbox and my desktop computer really dies one day, at least I’ll have those pictures.  Sounds like a project for Christmas and New Years since I’ll be home for 2 days each of those weeks.

Now speaking of Apples:  (I mentioned that a while back if you weren’t paying attention) anyway, I went to www.marksdailyapple.com and I’m “hooked” (also known as “addicted” to those of us who are that way).  I’m waiting for my daily “dose” of Mark.  It hasn’t come to my email yet today.  I guess it will take a couple of days.  But I was able to order a new cookbook with some fancy recipes of “snacks” and other main dishes that will make me healthy like Bill and Cathy.  I bought a spaghetti squash yesterday.  Those suckers are BIG.  I picked out the smallest one.  Anyway, I said I like pasta and this is a “substitute” for that.  I’ll plan to cook it on Christmas to see how that works.  I suppose I’d have time after work one day to go through that 45 minute ritual (I have to check on that – Cathy told me how to do that, but I’m not sure how she sent that – I think it was in a text).  Anyway, I found some pasta sauce without “sugar” so it should be ok too.  Cathy is sending me some of her recipes once they get settled.  I’m especially interested in that cauliflower “potato” substitute dish.  It was AMAZING!

So I couldn’t wait to find my George Foreman Grill at a “Thrift Store”.  I bought one at Walmart yesterday for $17.  Still cheap in my mind.  They’ve made them much “lighter” and “sleeker” now.  I used it to cook a hamburger last night.  Then I had some frozen veggies sauteed with worchestershire sauce and cheddar cheese.  I think that was all “wheat free”.  One thing I’m noticing already is that I’m not “snacking” as much.  Yesterday I wasn’t hungry and didn’t snack like I usually do on Sundays.  That is very exciting.  Here is a picture of my new “Grill”!

I thought about a little “gas” grill like Bill and Cathy have to cook on.  I’m not sure I want to get into that “gas” thing.  I’ll see how little “George” does for me.  I’m planning to have another hamburger tonight for dinner and a little salad.  This is so much fun and I’m already feeling the effects from just being around B & C for a week.  (I know – that’s alcoholic thinking), but it “is what it is”!

Doug said he had a “food processor” that he would give me.  I almost bought one of those yesterday but held off.  I want to see what Doug will give me for “free”.  Now I just need to remember what that dark chocolate bar was that Cathy & Bill have “after dinner”.  One square and that’s “Plenty”.  I know it is “dark chocolate” but I can’t remember the brand or other ingredients.  I’ll wait to see if Cathy reads this today and comments.

So time is up for today.  Got to get rolling.  Only 3 days of work this week.  That is WONDERFUL!  www!

The chocolate bars we like are Lindt Excellence 85% Cocoa Extra Dark. You can find them at Walmart for about $2.50 a bar.

Congrats on cooking! I am so proud of you! And a FREE food processor is great!

Ok – I bought 100% Unsweetened Baking Chocolate Bar “Bakers” at Publix. Haven’t tried it but I bet I won’t like it like the Lindt ones. So live and learn.

Glad you are not paranoid about viruses, b/c many such are “self-inflicted”–we click on an unfamiliar link. Then we discover it was not the “new car” we win, or the $10,000, but a new piece of malware plus 10,000 headaches. Mine is all fixed now–but I had to reboot each of too many times to get it to go away (for 10 minutes or so. BAD!!

Have not used drop box yet–FEAR, Baby…FEAR!!! But since YOU took advantage, guess it’s my turn to bite the bullet and “TRY IT!” (Thanks, Bob!)

That monitor you have hooked up to the machine running XP…will prob work well with most any laptop, Mary. If any gurus are “lurking” it would be OK for them to correct me/us/whatever–in a (“kind”) comment. HA!

Plz do not snip away any more of the Lighthouse Photo, or, if you do, save both copies, OK? Field in foreground of all that wild stuff lends itself to really fine perspective, IMO. Also gives a natural sense to the picture–lighthouse saves ships from disaster at sea, lush flowering houses in distance–Could have seen a bit more sky, not a lot…ENUFF!

NOW Cathy has posted…and I’M going to try that chocolate (Yes, Mary. I KNOW chocolate is not a complete diet, OK??? HAHAHA!) But the whole website looks mighty interesting, and for 99¢ you can get it on your iPhone–in my case, same price, on Android…

I can hear “lurkers” laughing when “Steve” enters a discussion re dieting. HA!

BTW, I disagree that this “connecting” with Bill and Cathy and “Health Plan” is “alcoholic thinking”. And the more you write here about it, and talk about it with friends, the greater chance for success, AGAIN, IMO…

    Mary, have a fast 3-day work week, and a S L O W but
enjoyable four days–twice! Blessings to you. PEACE!
    and…WWW it is.
