Good Morning World,
Happy Sunday! Yesterday, Dick and I painted my bedroom. Well, Dick really painted it, I took care of taping and handing him tools and cleaning up afterward and lunch and washing his car (at St. Peter’s) – stuff like that. Here is the photo of the process:
We worked around the furniture. Kept moving it around when we got to the place we were painting. It is now white like most of the other part of the house. Now all that is left are the bathrooms. But I need to find a new light fixture before we do that. I’m thinking that the master bath should be a “bright” green – not like the dark color of the couches, more like a light, olive or “lime” green – although I don’t want “lime”. I may want to paint it turquoise. Anyway, there is time for that – the fixture needs to be picked out and installed first. I wonder if the Home Tech people install stuff like that. But if not, I have “handiman” Paul Murphy to help me.
You know, the other day when the Home Tech people came by to fix my garbage disposal and toilet, it ended up that I got a “brand new” disposal. The new one is “MAGIC”. It is SO quiet – it’s amazing. They make them now with a removable rubber stopper so you can “clean” it which is smart since that gets gunky and gross after a while. I think I’ll get my “money’s worth” out of Home Tech this year. I didn’t have to pay for the garbage disposal! And he fixed my guest toilet that wasn’t flushing correctly. It makes me think about our residents at Orchid Terrace. Just put in a work order and everything gets fixed! That is what I do – put in the work order and facilities comes and fixes everything.
Today is Heather Wesling’s 15th AA Anniversary. She and Steve celebrate their anniversary in the same month, so she’ll go up next Thursday and collect her chip like Steve will (Steve celebrates 41 years). Here is a picture of Heather: As a Blond and Brunette.
I first met Heather when I joined the “Corrections” committee. I joined it after Dick Carter passed away and I took over the “treasurer” position. I’ve held that now through Heather’s chairmanship, Polly’s chairmanship and now with Tim as chair. Guess it’s time to “pass it on” to the next person. But I do like being on that committee. It’s fun doing the “picnic”. Christine is now the secretary and she is doing a great job. I’m glad she is doing that service work. She got a job at Hazelden which is just what she wanted. That is so cool too!
Today we are having a “Celebration of Life for Ray Cecere” at 2PM. Here is Ray (and Luis):
Ray and Martha are wonderful folks. Here is their picture:
Yesterday as I was sitting in line to get Dick’s car washed at St. Peter’s I saw this saying and I really liked it. We’ve had a number of losses recently and this makes a lot of sense to me:
I just realized that I am “in charge” of Communion today so I’ll have to stop by Publix on my way to church. I am thinking about riding Red to church. If I do that, I’ll take Santa Barbara all the way to Pine Ridge and go to the Publix at The Vineyards – which used to be “my Publix” when I lived at The Vineyards. It would be nice if I lived there now because I’d be closer to all kinds of things, but my little house at Shadowood is just perfect for me. The place I had at the Vineyards was nice with a 2 car garage but the little back porch was pretty close to a “privacy wall” and that made it weird to sit out there. I love my back porch (in Florida it’s a lanai – Dick and I had a discussion about that yesterday) and it looks into a “forest” which I don’t think will ever be “developed” and that makes for a nice view out of the kitchen through the livingroom and then outside. Now that my porch is so “clean”, it’s really great!
Next week is going to be a busy week. On Monday, it is “payroll processing day” plus we’re having our “Certificate Ceremony” for the last class of “Best Friends”. I’m not sure it’s been announced to our partners – although maybe Lily mentioned it in her staff meetings – but I hope that was done, because it might not be so cool if no one showed up for it. I can only hope that a couple of the people who were in the class will be working on Monday. Well – nothing I can do about that now. It is also the time when our next “schedules” are posted and we have a lot of questionable shifts to cover. That’s a “blog” in itself – I really despise doing the schedule – it is so difficult to cover for people wanting time off when we don’t have people to cover those shifts. Next Wednesday is the “District Meeting” – guess I should send out a reminder today. Now that I’m thinking about it. On Thursday, there is the “Cookie Meeting” plus a Sister’s by the Sea committee meeting before that. Friday is my “Intergroup” service from 4 to 6 and then it’s the weekend again. Monday the 30th will be a “day off” for me and Dick, Doug and I are going to travel to Weston to visit Jon and Ale.
So time to get going this morning. Thanks for visiting and have a beautiful day today!

Please excuse the blank comment above…my mind must have been blank also, as happens more and more lately–grin!
Hey Mary, what has forever kept me procrastinating on painting is the “preparation,…and the cleanup” THAT is the REAL work, to me. I don’t mean that climbing up in the rafters like Uncle Dick does is easy, but he does get to experience that love of being the one to actually slap on the paint, the one to “create” a new color, ambiance, a new “attitude and outlook” in the house.
Of course the real creators are BOTH of you, who discuss and choose the colors, and finally, DO THE WORK! Nuff said on that!
Interesting thought, that creation did not just happen and “that was that”…It is ongoing, and I suspect we can discover that just by observation and experience. (LOOK OUT! The self-appointed philosopher is on board!)
I guess that wonderful sign “Life is changed, Not ended” took me into deepest thinking, a bad place for me. However true that MUST be, life changes in every facet of creation–DEATH and REBIRTH, from trees to weeds! Why not US? OKAY…promise no more now–MAYBE (smiles)
OMG…so THIS is where I read about Heather’s 15th Anniversary…SO many congratulations for her, one of the real workers in the face of much difficulty, hopefully now buried in the past. Nice photos, Mary…each tells a “story” even when I don’t know the people.
That “scheduling” without the people to fill the spots sounds impossible. That is why YOU are doing it, Mary, because you have a way of accomplishing what cannot be done. Always, you do as Bob ordered…”TRY IT”. And that has seen you (myself also, BTW!) through much of the seemingly impossibles. And you fearless of risk–IT’S ABOUT TIME for me to stop this amateur “fill-oss-if-eye-ing”…so may God allow only necessary stress for you during this last full week in March. please!

Thanks for the “fill-oss-if-eye-ing”. I made it through “Payroll” Monday and Best Friends Certificate Celebration today. Now tomorrow we’ll tackle the schedules which are a MESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! No GV meeting for me tonight – I don’t believe. I’m still tired from painting/not painting.
