Hello Everyone,
Did you miss me yesterday? I got busy in the morning because we received our very generous Christmas Gift yesterday at work. Just in time to fix my car! So I wanted to make up a little thank you letter to send to a few select people who “ran the campaign”. I have worked at Moorings Park for 10 years (I will celebrate my anniversary in March) and each year our residents collect a “Christmas Fund” for all of the partners and right before Christmas they distribute “gifts” (not bonuses) to all of us. They get this huge amount of money and the campaign goes for about a month. Residents are not allowed to tip us during the year for all of the “little” things we do for them that in the “real world” would be “tipped”. So this is how they do it. They’ve come up with a formula that they “suggest” – $3 per day X 365 days up to $5 per day. So with over 600 residents that is a lot of money. I don’t get the minutes to the Resident Council meetings any more but it gets given out to over 600 employees. This year it will go toward the repair of my car.
I got all psyched to buy a new car and trade in my little Rose. But after thinking about it and talking to my “money guy” John, we figured it was better to repair it and cheaper in the long run. I’m going to get a 2nd and maybe 3rd opinion before I give the work to the VW place. Plus the fact, I love my little Rose and I’m not sure I want to go through all that hassle with a buying a car. Maybe when I “retire” and have time to go kick tires. I still love the VW and would probably stay with them. Also I like Honda and Toyota (loved my 4Runner) so we’ll see how this repair project goes. I think I’ll try to see if the other people can get my “extended warranty” people to pay for the repair. It’s worth a “shot”. So more shall be revealed and you can believe I’ll be “Blogging” about this for a while.
So here are my first pictures today:
I love this little car and she lives so well in my garage. She is very versatile. She has a big ole trunk that when the back seat is lowered gives me as much room as my old Toyota 4Runner. She is a little “low to the ground” that is worrisome in flooding conditions. Someone suggested that perhaps she would float like the old models used to do, but I have my doubts about that and hope I never get stuck in that type of flooding. Cosmetically, she is in pretty good shape, the glove compartment is broken and closed with a bungee cord – I know – my brother is going to flip over that, but I can’t see spending $500 on THAT. I disabled the sun roof, but I think I can re-establish that connection if necessary. She has 4 new tires, a new water pump and a new starter. She only has 60000 miles on her and I fully expect to get 100000 miles out of her so she has a lot of time left. She is 10 years old however. But I’m not sure I like the new body style. It looks “clunky” to me. Rose is a “turbo” so she has a lot of “pep”. So enough gushing on my little car!
I’ve said that my brother Bill and his wife Cathy are coming to visit. They are staying out “in the swamp” in their RV. They haven’t seen my new house or met my little kitty Metaxa – I can’t remember if they’ve seen Domino in person yet. So I’ve been working on getting the house ready a little for them. I fixed up the closet in the den. I had just put everything in there on the floor since I think it was used as a “clothes” closet in the past. So I went to my favorite neighborhood store, Walmart, and bought some “organizers”.
(Waiting for the pic):
I also cleaned off the table on the porch and the porch furniture so we can sit out there if it is nice and not too cold. Although last night when I was working out there, the neighbors were out on their porch and I could hear their conversation and I’m sure they will be able to hear us. But it is still nice out there. I also did this:
It takes a visit from someone to motivate me to polish the silver. I used to have a lot more silver from my mother, but I’ve gotten rid of it through the years. I love it when it is polished, but I don’t do it too often. These are the final pieces I own. Just enough to enjoy without too much work!
Well that’s about all of the time I have now. I need to make up a couple of Thank You notes for my birthday cards from work. Have a great day today! (911 words).

HAHAHA! Mary! You ask “Did you miss me yesterday?” I laugh, because several times a day (when I go online) I hit the Wylie shortcut–BECAUSE I ENJOY reading news of Wylie, Metaxa, Domino, Red, and Rose…and Mary of course! It is like being friends with a family across town.
During my teens I spent lot of time with large family, girls, boys, AND parents who “understood” (not like MY parents–grin!). That’s what I told my mother, that “they understood”..HAHAHA! She thought that was wonderful–NOT!!!!!
Anyways, to this day I remember that group of kids, parents, dogs, a cat, and a laid-back ambience, which has always equated “serenity” for me. Bad Boy? Who knows? Who CARES? (Hey I’m piling up the word-count here!)
IF you “love your little car”, you would have to spend an awful lot of money to equal price of a new car. Only your accountant knows where is the “cut-off” point–or “break even” mark…I’ve always heard, you buy a car with your brain, not with your heart. BUT, who of us can separate our heart from brain–they would then BOTH be orphans.
Yes, one of the benefits of working in a “club” atmosphere, is the members sort of take their people (staff) under their wing, so to speak. And you are in one of the high-end places…Where people are SO nice–for the most part…Glad they are generous with their “Peeps”.
Gotta go, Mary. Yes, I DID miss you yesterday, others missed you also, but they don’t comment much, I guess. Doesn’t matter. I enjoy commenting, as much as reading, you know that, maybe it is ego—I can’t be concerned with that. LIVE IN THE MOMENT, the PRESENT, according to RR this morning.
