Good morning COVID-19 Warriors! Day 136 today. It’s Saturday, August 15, 2020. I am at the KOA in Las Cruces, NM. It is my 3rd time here. It’s a very convenient location for my trips home. Right at the intersection of US 25 & US 10. I’ll be leaving here in a bit – no real rush, but I want to leave before the triple digits hit. It is 76 this morning & 81 in Daisy – not uncomfortable.
So I changed my plans again for my trip back. I was originally going to an Alpaca farm which is a Harvest Host stop. I decided it was going to be off the beaten track too much & the next day I was going back to Cottonwood & then home. So I decided to go down US 25 from Alamosa so I wouldn’t have to drag Daisy & OTIS2 up the mountains! I was going to stop at another Harvest Host called Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood, NM but decided to drive longer so I could get home a day earlier & get to Las Cruces instead. I was on the road for 9 hours which is TOO long! I really feel sorry for Metaxa. She stays in one place when we get on the road so she was stuck for 9 hours in the upstairs. No potty breaks for her! I hope I’m not damaging her! She seems fine!
I love it when she is on my lap!!!
So I need to catch up a little from my last blog. Susan & I went out to the Great Sand Dunes National Park because I wanted to get my Passport stamped. They don’t stamp it in this day of Coronavirus so I tape a date stamp into it. So sad! But better than nothing! So we took better pictures at the sign. I’m doing this blog on my iPad so I’m going to see if I can put the picture in the blog from my email:
Done! I just downloaded the picture from my email to my photos on this iPad & inserted it. Actually one less step than on my laptop! Here we are again at the sign:
So we went on an adventure the other day. I wanted to see what it was like to drive out on BLM land in anticipation of doing that one day and there was an access by the KOA in Alamosa. It was a dirt road but well maintained. OTIS2 did well but got really dirty!
Susan is really into trains because of Fred Harvey & The Harvey Girls! She gave me this book to read which I am enjoying immensely!
This guy is amazing & we have signed up for a weekend in Santa Fe in November. I’m going to drive Daisy without OTIS2 to Santa Fe & she is going to drive her Jeep down from Denver. We have reservations in a State Park for the weekend & we’ll both stay in Daisy. Now that will be interesting. But it still may not happen with this COVID thing. Time will tell. But the people who go to these things are called “Fred Heads”, so I’ll be an official Fred Head after that weekend!
So here I am relaxing in 80 degree weather in the shade at the KOA in Alamosa, CO:
It’s getting hot now. Better get rolling. I’ll complete this in Benson. See you later. Lots more to come so come back!
So now I am back in Benson and it is:
I was thinking about unhooking OTIS2 from Daisy, but it’s too hot. I’ll wait until the sun goes down and perhaps that will be better. I have the AC on in Daisy which will help me later when I decide to clean her out. It was pretty dirty out in Colorado and she needs some thorough cleaning. OTIS2 is really dirty. I’ll need to wash him some early morning. No rush though – I’m not going anywhere any time soon.
The other adventure we had in Alamosa was to visit the trains that were not running. We would have taken the tour if it wasn’t for COVID! Anyway, here is a picture of the train:
We found a place to have a picnic by a church in town in the shade:
Here is the sign saying it’s the “Oldest Church in Colorado”. It was mostly a construction area – no work being done – probably because of COVID!!!
SO I got back a day earlier than planned. I love the Las Cruces KOA.
Pull through site. Very nice! This is the view – looks like a volcano to me.
They have tent spaces too that look very nice – too hot to tent camp here right now. Lot’s of tent campers on the road these days. Thank goodness for the comfort of Daisy!
So now Daisy and OTIS2 are here:
I’m leaving them in the street for a couple of days until I can unhook OTIS2 and then back Daisy into her space. So that is all for now. We’re going to get a big thunderstorm so I think I’ll sign off for now and go back to reading. Thanks for visiting. See you next time. Be Calm, Be True, Be Quiet!
