Olivi@ & Otis RV Life #40

Here we are in Datil, NM! Suzan & I are cleaning out the cabin!

Tyler Ranch

We flew out to New Mexico on Tuesday, cleaned out the cabin, and are now back on the road to Florida in this:

16 foot oversized truck

So the trip hasn’t been without problems. First of all we had a really early flight and we thought we were pre checked. But we weren’t and had to get at the end of the regular check in line. It was so long & very few people were working, so we missed our flight by 2 minutes! The good news was that we really didn’t have a time crunch & we got on the next flight stand by. Then we got to DFW & almost missed that flight because we had to take the Sky Train to the next terminal. We got on that plane with 10 minutes to spare & got the last 2 seats on the plane. So then in Albuquerque, we picked up the rental truck. We wanted a 12’ truck & were assured over & over again that we could get it, but there was only a 16’ truck for us, which is huge! This is what it looks like all packed:

Look at all of the room we had! But we got it done a day early so we are now on the road back to Florida.

We had an awesome time in Datil! I met all of Suzan’s friends! Bonnie & Sally, Whit & Rita. Drove around the “sub-division”, which wasn’t like any sub division I’ve ever seen. It is named for the mountain in the area called “Sugarloaf”. Every 5 acre parcel has beautiful views of this really cool mountain. The land is full of Juniper trees and other desert plantings. There is a water well where we pumped water to take to the cabin. Turned out that the 6 gallons we bought at Walmart on the way to the ranch was enough, but we also left a day earlier than planned. We did fill up 3 gallon jugs with Datil water to bring back to Florida.

So we had Bonnie & Sally come over on Wednesday to help us pack up the cabin & other things. We took all of the clothes that they had in bins & put them in trash bags so we could put all of the other items in the bins. We got it done so quickly that we were able to leave a day early. We took off after a lovely lasagna dinner at 2 PM at Bonnie’s & Sally’s. We drove to Socorro which was 90 miles toward Florida & stayed at a Days Inn with a great morning breakfast of waffles! It was a bit of a wreck of a hotel, but the beds were comfortable! Here is a picture of our room with the homemade parcheesi game that Bonnie gave us.

So we’re thinking about putting the cabin on “Vacation Home By Owner” & rent it out to people who want to live minimally and hike through the area. We might be able to do that. Just in the planning stages at this point, but I know I want to go back there again. Suzan also did this while we were there:

Sacred Indian Metates

Lots of Indian love & blessings in this cabin along with the grounds! We brought home a lot of stones, drift wood & walking sticks.

I guess that’s about it for now. I’ll start again next time. Tomorrow we’ll go as far as Houston!
