Hello Everyone,
Today is Thursday, day 4 of our excellent adventure. It rained last night as the front came through. It’s been mostly cloudy today and the temperature is 69 degrees. It’s 73 in Olivi@. I am wearing long pants and a long sleeve shirt and it is very comfortable. I took a shower today and it felt great too. I love camping as I don’t shower everyday and it is so much fun!
Today we went on a tour of the Hammock. We saw all kinds of birds and alligators. Lots of explanations about the type of trees and environments and habitats here. It is really a great tour. We had a ranger named Kevin and he was really good. Here is a picture of him:
So the most interesting thing I felt I learned on this tour today was that the tree behind him is dated back 1000 years……to 970 AD! And it is still living – see all of that green growth coming out of the top? If you remember, Suzan took a picture of me at that tree the day before and we had NO IDEA the tree was so old. We did note it was a pretty cool tree. (For those of you who haven’t read all of my blogs here is the picture again):
OK so I had a bunch of stuff on this blog, but “FAILED TO SAVE IT” so now I need to recreate it. UGH!
The first thing I remember that I spoke about was about our tour today and here is a picture of the wilderness from the back of the tram. It is a step back into history:
The next thing I wanted to post was a picture of me with the Highlands Hammock State Park sign. This is something I’ll try to do at each place I go to document this new journey!
Now I am saving this after each entry. Pretty soon I’ll be giving this up because I can’t rely on the WiFi which is coming out of Olivi@ to my computer at the picnic table. At least I am outside. It is chilly now and I have on a sweat shirt and tennis shoes. Let me see if I can take a selfie. I don’t usually like selfies, but I’m all by myself, as Bette and Suzan are in town shopping for some pet items.
Another thing I learned about was that Air Plants can live to be 30 years old.
Here is one about that age.

I’m going to finish this later. Suzan and Bette just got back so I’ll do this later tonight.
