I’d been thinking a while about towing our Jeep behind Daisy. I haven’t needed to do it yet, although it’s all set up to be towed. I was a bit worried about how heavy it was – it’s close to the limit for DAISEE2. So I started thinking about a Smart Car. Did a bunch of research on YouTube, and decided it was just a little too unsafe for us. So I started looking at other cars. Was researching a FIAT 500 and was seriously looking for one. They are cute and can be towed 4 down. But all of a sudden Jack mentioned a VW. WELL – I was like a dog with a bone. Found this on Craigs List:
Here is a picture of it from Craig’s List:So I thought about it and figured I’d wait until after my trip next week. BUT something was nudging me. So I called up the guy – George in Douglas on the Mexican Border. George is a Border Control Officer. REALLY nice and cute! So Jack and I drove down there from Tucson yesterday in the pouring rain – huge storms – scared all the way, but finally got to George’s house in Douglas and bought it from him on the spot for $5,700. WHAT A DEAL! I almost feel like I pulled one over on him. The car is so cute and in GREAT shape. I drove it 120 miles one way from Douglas to Tucson and it drove like a dream. It’s a standard shift car so it can be towed 4 down and Blue Ox has a faceplate for it. SO after I get back from Albuquerque, I’ll get it set up for towing at the the place we had the Jeep done. I think we can transfer most of the stuff from the Jeep to the VW except the faceplate. I’m SO excited. Now to name her. I thought about ROSE2 – which is in the running. Also BLU BUG. It’s got 99K miles on it, but I expect I can put another 100K on her. Time will tell. It is SO much fun to drive and should get pretty good gas mileage. 20 City and 29 Highway. Much better than the JEEP. 17 City and 21 Highway. Not as good as some cars, but better than Daisy with 8 mpg!
SO I’m all set and now I can drive a VW rather than the JEEP. We’re hoping it will fit in front of Daisy with a cover on it in the same space at the storage place. We’ll see about that. Anyway, can you tell I’m excited!!!!
I hope you enjoy this site. I am learning the process as I go with this. Forgive me for lack of knowledge, but I've decided it's never too late to learn a new skill.
