RV Life with Mama & Papa #11 Tuesday, April 13, 2021

So I’m continuing this today, Wednesday, April 14, 2021.  I slept pretty well last night.  Got up a couple of times as usual, but my walk to the bathroom is 6 steps!  Anyway, got up at 5AM this morning – missed my 8AM Eastern time meeting.  Hope Jeff was there to host and put the link to the Paypal account.  Anyway, today is another day.  It was 60 in the rig this morning so a sweatshirt was enough for me to stay warm.  Metaxa was excited to be here this morning and was doing some exploring.  She wanted to go into all of the storage areas.  I just love her – she is so sweet.  She slept with me last night which was great!  Here she is exploring the slide out:

She is trying to get under the slide.  I don’t think that she can cause any issues, but you never know.  Another reason to leave her at home while I take a long trip.

So this morning I woke up to this sunrise:  Of course, the picture doesn’t do it justice, but you get the point.

Still trying to get the picture.  I’ll be back with it.  Today I’m going to walk down to the Discovery Center and buy my sticker to put on the slide out.  The wind has died down finally, so I might be able to put out the awning and sit out there and read.  The shadow of Mama Bear works like the awning, so I may not need to do that.  We’ll see.  I might go for a hike this morning before it gets too hot.  It says that it’s 57 degrees right now in Benson and will get up to 80.  That is good.

I was watching a video this morning from Campendium for the best campgrounds in 2017.  I just saw one yesterday for the best campsites in 2020.  Anyway, he mentions a campground in Winslow, AZ which is a place that Susan loves to visit.  It’s called: Homolovi State Park.  Let me see if I can get something on it to add here.  Be right back.  Oh and BTW, I’m using my phone “HOTSPOT” for cell service.  I think it is doing pretty well.  It is a little “slow” and turns off, periodically, but basically it is pretty good and the fact that I’m saving $60 a month on my cell service it worth it.

Not all of the sites have electric.  53 does and it’s a back in site.  35 is a pull through and it doesn’t have electric.  So anyway, we’ll need to go there and camp so she can show me La Posada – the Harvey Girls Hotel that she keeps talking about.  That would be a fun trip.

I just went for a walk around my camping loop.  Lots of interesting rigs and other things.  Saw the biggest Jack Rabbit today.  I took a picture of it, but I’m not sure if you can see it.

Sure you can see it but it really blends in.  Here we are in our site:

This campground is so nice and it’s in my back yard!  So blessed!  Look you can rent campers:

Now that might be something for the future.  Who knows!  There are “glamping” cabins here also and they are all 4 booked:

Remember I was telling you that I was having trouble with pictures uploading?  Well, it’s back to the “old” way this morning.  Not sure what that is all about but I sure love it.  SO much easier!  Here is another picture of Mama & Papa!

So I think I’ll do a little exploring today.  I’m not going on the hike by myself – I’d hate to get lost even though the trails are well marked.  I can get my exercise by just walking around the campsites and I can see a bunch of different set ups.  I noticed that many people are leaving today.  It will be fun to watch everyone come in today too.  So after I parked here yesterday, I wasn’t happy with my “leveling” and called Bill to talk me through it.  So now look at this:

Can’t get much better than THAT!!!!!  Thank you Bill!  So the tent stayed up.

Still happy that I have Mama Bear.  I would never do this if I had to live in a tent that is for sure.  So it’s so funny, Metaxa is hopping around in here and each time she jumps up on something (right now she is on the counter in the bathroom) she shakes the whole camper.  It’s a funny thing!

Good afternoon everyone.  I am at Kartchner Caverns State Park in Benson, Arizona.  YES, it is a State Park in my new home town.  I’ve spoken about this super place before and Susan and I came by here while she was in town.  It was too hot for her and caused a bit of difficulty with her “heart” issue.  But I’m here now and I’ve got all of my windows open and the breeze is still a bit cool.  It’s 81 in the rig, but is very comfortable.  I do not feel the need to put on the AC which makes me very happy since it is so LOUD.  I did test it yesterday and it cooled the place down in about 1/2 hour so if I really need it, I’ll turn it on for a bit.  I brought Metaxa with me this time – it’s the first time she has been with me in Mama Bear.  Here is proof:

Currently she is here:

I put a bed for her under the table and she seems to like it and feels safe there.  She isn’t too sure about exploring yet.  I’m just hoping she’ll still want to sleep with me tonight.  When I got here, I decided to hook up to the camp water.  After attaching the “new” super duper water filter, there was a leak at the faucet.  I went down to our Camp Host – Steve, and he came up with this configuration to keep the filter at an angle so there wasn’t so much pressure on the filter.  He said it’s important to keep the hoses flexible so they don’t break.  Now I need to buy a few of these things:

It stopped the water from dripping.  After this trip, I’ll be able to dump my tanks for the first time.  I would do it here on my way out, but I don’t want to delay getting Metaxa home after this trip.  I’ll dump it on Snowbird Hill when I’ve got her safely back in the house.

I’ve decided to not take her on my long trip this summer.  I’ll only bring her occasionally on trips close to home.  It might get better as time goes on, but I talked to Terry and she is willing to stop by twice a day and spend time with her for only $10 a day.  I think she’ll be much happier in the house.

So back to Kartchner.  I was here for one night with RVW a month or so ago.  This was where I took this awesome picture:

This was the first time I backed Mama in with Papa on my own.  The sunset got better and better:

It was really amazing.  I’m hoping it will happen again while I’m here for these couple of days and nights.  Steve told me that there is a guy here with a HUGE telescope where, I might be able to watch the stars after dark.  I told him I usually don’t go out at night, but I feel pretty safe around here and the guy might let me see the stars with his telescope.

I am in site #3 this time.  I was in site #43 last time.  This one is a pull through and I’m along the road where other rigs drive by coming in for the night.  It’s fun to see all of the different campers coming in.

I think I’ll go out right now and sit in my camp chair for a while and watch the world go by.  The wind is pretty strong but it’s keeping the rig comfortable.

I’ve been trying to download a HEIC photo to this blog and I finally figured out how to do it from my computer.  I downloaded a couple of APPS on my phone, but couldn’t work it out, so now I’ll do it this way.  The HEIC platform takes up less space than the same picture as a JPEG, but some platforms can not convert them.  That was what was happening to me.  Susan sent me this picture of Daisy and Otis2 from Alamosa and I’ve been trying to add it to the blog ever since.  So TADA……….

Now this is really weird.  I have the picture in my “BLOG” pictures, but it won’t upload here.  Truly frustrating.  Oh well, guess you’ll just need to imagine it!
