RV Life with Mama & Papa #23 Thursday, June 17, 2021.

Good Afternoon everyone.  It’s been quite a while since I’ve blogged – in fact the last blog ended up with our Sister Bay, WI trip with Lonnie and Tom.  Today I’m writing this from Mama while at Prospect RV Park near Susan in Denver.  I stayed here last year when I came up to visit with her for 5 days when she bought Mariah.  I had Daisy and OTIS2 here then.  That van is still here in the same spot!!!!

Here I am this year with Mama & Papa Bear:

This is a picture of Mama & Papa tucked in between 2 Class A’s, a Tiffin and a Coachman.  I even had to use an adaptor for my 30 amp plug from a 50 amp plug.  It’s 108 degrees here.  I have the AC on and Metaxa and I are just “chillin” after our drive here from North Platte, NE.  This view is from the dump station where Susan dumped her tanks in the hot weather – never again.  I dumped my tank in the cool of the morning at I80 Lakeside Campground in North Platte, NE.  Here is our site there:

Susan went swimming – I just stuck my toes in – I don’t have a bathing suit but that may change in this 100 degree weather I’m going back to in Benson!  That swimming pool may feel a lot better in this heat!!!!!!

Here is the sunset at North Platte and the view from my window of the Platte River:

Here is Mariah at a rest stop.

I’m right behind her:

The fact that we got where we were supposed to get without any glitches – just one minor one at Amana – but it worked out fine.  Susan wanted to use WAZE and she led us.  I wanted to use my GPS and I followed her.  They mostly matched in their directions – just a few glitches, but it didn’t matter.  She knew how to use WAZE and I don’t and I know how to use the GPS and she doesn’t.  But it is good to have a back up plan for when there is no cell service.  The other thing we needed was walkie talkies.  Mine didn’t work – one of them worked a bit and was helpful when there were 3 of us.  So we borrowed Lonnie’s for our trip to Denver and they worked until we could hardly hear one another – but Susan knew most of the routes and we had no issues.  Another reason to return the way we came.

Have I mentioned how wonderful Metaxa is on this trip?  If not – she is THE BEST.  Here she is enjoying the sunrise in Seward at the Fairgrounds.

We again got totally lucky with our sites.  There are only 3 with shade and they were available for the night we were there:

Otherwise we would have been out in the field like last time, but the temperature was in the 60’s not in the 90’s.  Here we are the first “go round” at the Fairgrounds:

We needed Papa Bear to drive us around to the cemeteries so this worked out great.  Metaxa was just left in Mama Bear and the temperature inside was just fine.  Tomorrow, Susan wants to drive up into the mountains so she’ll be left in Mama Bear with the AC running.  My AC is SO LOUD!  Very annoying, but beats the alternative of not having it.

So the gauges in the rig are “suspect”.  After I dumped – my black tank showed FULL the entire time until I dumped this morning.  Now at least it is showing 1/3 but is empty.  So I don’t trust those gauges at all – except the battery one that shows full because it is full.  Anyway, I started thinking about my propane.  I don’t use the stove much but I’ve traveled over 4300 miles with the fridge on and the propane running it on the road.  So I was thinking it might need to be refilled.  But this is what the gauge said:

It hasn’t changed a bit since leaving Benson on May 24th.  I put the question to the HIKE FB group and people said that it seems to run out without warning on those gauges.  So at the Flying J at North Platte, I had a guy help me.  His name was Michael and he was the guy that did that there.  Anyway, he lifted out the left tank (the one that is supposed to be used before the other one kicks in) and he disconnected it and filled it up.  He said by the weight it probably had only 1 gallon (out of 20) left and the other one had about a 1/2 gallon out of it.  So he filled them both up and now I’m completely full for the rest of my trip.  I gave him a $10 tip because he was my HERO!  I asked if it was OK for him to accept tips and he said yes, but no one tips any more.  Pretty sad!!! I’m really glad I insisted on getting that done.  Sure would not want the refrigerator to crap out on me for the rest of my trip which will be the HOTTEST of the trip!

So I just took a little walk around the park.  It’s very strange.  Looks like 75% are full time (for a LONG time) in their sites and the other sites are just scattered in between.  Looks like they save 1, 2 & 3 for transients like me.  But I’m in GOOD company today.  A VERY EXPENSIVE Tiffin is beside me:

And on the other side is a Class A with 2 little barking dogs (Chihuahaus) in it.  Haven’t seen owners yet:

I’m trying the new cover on Papa Bear – first time out of the package.  It’s a little messy but it helps with privacy.

So that’s about it for now.  This part of the trip is just getting from one place to the next.  No sight seeing.  As great as this trip has been, I’m looking forward to getting back to my routine at home.  It will be 29 days away in Mama Bear for me.  I want to get my tooth fixed and maybe make an appointment to get the thing removed from my forehead.  It might be just TOO HOT in Benson.  We’ll see.  Thanks for visiting.  Leave a comment!
