#278 Good Morning Saturday, November 28, 2015

Hello World and Bill and Cathy and beyond,

So I’ve learned a new “skill” on my computer/scanner.  I can scan photos into jpegs!  Here is my first one:

Roache Family

Roache Family

This is the super picture that Dick sent me a while ago.  It was on Grandpa’s 4th of July Birthday in 1948 or 1947.  That is Jonny on Grandpa’s lap.  Bill, Dick and I weren’t born yet!  I LOVE THIS PICTURE!

So also, we’re in the process of opening up The New Attitudes Club which will be close to where I live.  I like the idea of their “new home” and I think I’ll probably start attending meetings there, once it is open.  It is really close to my house and that makes a difference to me.  I can safely ride Red2 there all of the time.  If I can convince others in our neighborhood (Heather, Ralph, Polly, John, Deb, Ron, Emilio etc) to start attending, we might be able to get it up and running and making enough money to survive.  I just have a problem always driving up to the 24 Hour Club and the Serenity Club is a distance also, although I’ve discovered a safe way to drive there without going on 951.  But I can go to the 24 Hour Club, after work and I’d like to do that, but the meeting doesn’t start until 5:30 after work and that’s an hour and a half I need to “hang out” until the meeting (of course I could use the gym during that “waiting time” – but that’s another story!).  If I went to the New Attitudes Club, I could come home and leave from there and get to the 5:30 meeting on time.  So I made up a flyer and now that I can make it into a jpeg, I can put it on the website home page and advertise it.  This is what I came up with:

I wanted it to be colorful and anonymous – not saying it is AA.  I’ve sent it to Bruce McAndrews to see if he “approves” of it before I offer it to the website or make up flyers.  He is the one that found the new location and has signed the lease.  I think he “underwrites” the Club too – at least I wouldn’t be surprised although I have no proof of that.  This particular club has a lot of “newcomers” and active drunks that come to it.  It can be a little frightening, but I’m hoping with the new location, some of that will “go away”.  It’s hard to say.  Anyway, I’m sort of excited about this possibility.

Today is a beautiful day in the neighborhood.  I’m able to open the sliding glass door out to the porch and let the cats come in and out as they please.  The temperature is 68 right now (8:30AM) which is perfect.  It will get up to 80 today, so I’ll close it once that happens as it gets “too humid” then.  I’m going to go to Food Angels today.  I haven’t been in a few weeks because others have taken the “left overs” to St. Matt’s.  I offered to do it today.  I think I’ll go a little early to watch the process a little more.  We just received our check from the NABOR Golf Tournament.  I forget how much it was, but it was a wonderful windfall for the program.  I think it was around $10,000.  It will be nice if we continue to be the recipient of that, but chances are, they choose a different charity each year.

I have really been enjoying this long holiday time off.  I haven’t really done anything special, but it’s giving me “pause” for when I retire.  I’ve determined that I can retire at 66.  I had to send a letter to the local office telling them that I “jumped the gun” on my application and that I want to wait until I’m 66.  At that time, I can work as many hours as I choose.  So now the plan of reducing my hours and making up the difference with PTO can “go into effect”.  That is if Lily approves.  Then they can start thinking about my “replacement”.  This will be an exciting time.  But I don’t want to “shoot myself in the foot” either.  It’s going to be an interesting conversation.  I may wait until my “review” time in February, or I may not.  I just keep obsessing about it – par for the course so we’ll see how it plays out.

Well I guess that’s about it for now.  I need to get to the bank and then drive all the way up to The Current.  Plus I need to grab some cookies for the meeting tonight.  So thanks for visiting and I hope your Thanksgiving has been memorable!
